Can't help. For me Edge is removed. Smartscreen disabled and neutralized and I won't use Google safe browsing.
Malwarebytes browser guard blocks dodgy downloads if you allow access to file URL's in options.
Other than that I scan all downloaded files anyway. Typically with a few solutions including:
SigcheckGUI – Skwire Empire
Mine is set to clear on exit but it saves session and I'm still logged in.
If I clear session data using another app then I will need to log in again.
Never mind. I will just wait for the Ccleaner browser plugin fix. Maybe the next version will be okay.

I do scan all files religiously too. Edge browser for me is just for the heck of it, not my main browser.
I would like to make Brave my default, the only thing that stop me is they are so slow to answer if they do, on their forum support.

Strange this are my settings and it works.
Forget that Malwarebytes extension. It's buggy in Brave.

Oops i missed this. I would do a clean Uninstall/Install, as it is not the way it should behave. I know it is an hassle...
Agreed on Google Safe Browsing but it's a good option for the unwary who just click on anything without thought.
