Ive just run up a new Dell machine with windows ten. The outgoing mail worked straight away but not incoming. There doesnt appear a way to access what those settings might be. Any advice please. Thank you

Dave,
I think you need to read Add or Delete Accounts in Mail app - TenForumsTutorials [particularly the Advanced setup guidance in Option 1 section 11] to understand its settings.
Best of luck,
Denis
Hi, you haven't specified what you're using to handle mail- presumably an email client, and at a guess, the Mail app.
Please be aware the Mail app is not a full featured email client like, say, Thunderbird, so do be aware of its limitations and make sure it really meets your needs.
For many aspects of Win 10, the huge Tutorial section here is very useful and detailed. Well worth becoming familar with and bookmarking. See 'Tutorial' at the top for categories, and see this
Windows 10 Tutorial Index
for a linear searchable list.
Try3 has already picked one out for you. There are quite a few more on Mail.
Assuming the Windows 10 Mail App, it is similar in any other Mail client as well.
Account > Account settings > Change mailbox sync settings > Advanced mailbox settings (scroll down) incoming & outgoing mail server info.
Check and put in correct servers with port number separated by a colon :
Some accounts like Outlook Mail are automatically setup with no server info.
A useful change in Windows 10 settings is Settings > Ease of Access > Display > Automatically hide scroll bars in Windows > Off.
That makes the scroll bars in Apps more visible, often it is not obvious there is a scroll down.
