    GitHub Challenged Question

My head spins each time I get on to GitHub. Would anyone be so kind to tell me which download I want for Windows 10 x64. Thanks so much.

If I am not mistaken I want "BraveBrowserStandaloneSetup.exe". Is that right? TIA. I know this is not the latest version.

    Does this help?

All versions of Brave Browser for Windows - FileHippo.com

In order to keep an old version update checks would have to be disabled.

If you want to install a standalone version:

    64bit:

    BraveBrowserStandaloneSetup.exe

    32bit:

    BraveBrowserStandaloneSetup32.exe

As far as I can work out you want an old version with no updates. The standalone version would not share ny existing Brave profile and you'd still need to check update settings and disable.

    Thanks for replying.

I believe those versions are too old for what I am looking for however the BraveBrowserStandaloneSetup.exe
file you reference is the one that I too am looking at on the GitHub website (v1.9.76) and I was looking for confirmation if that is indeed the one that I want.

FYI according to this January 2020 article Brave Browser auto updates and there is no setting to disable. It appears you have to do some fiddling around to stop it from updating. Thanks for the info.

    So i downloaded and installed:

But it immediately tries to update.

Blocking in Firewall is good enough if you have a firewall that alerts on connections.

    Then create a permanent rule:

I will try deleting the updater and see what happens.

I went into the program directory and deleted all update related files and the browser runs fine with no errors and no update checks.

    : )

Thanks for getting into the weeds on this one for me. I'll try to implement your suggestions later this week and see if I am able to come up with similar results.

If you are so inclined this "problem" with the
“Toggle Reader Mode” missing in v1.10 of the Brave Browser is also being talked about to a certain degree on the Brave Browser Community Forum:

    Thanks again for your help.

The strange thing is that it's available in Vivaldi (Toolbar) and I just updated.

    Maybe they'll put it back.
