New Edge update - help please urgent!

I am elderly and quite new to Edge so this is what has happened. Yesterday my laptop automatically updated Edge and I cannot find how to reverse this update as I cannot get on with it - I want to use Edge but previously had the best of both worlds!

When I used to click on the three dots in Edge I scrolled down to 'more tools' clicked on to it and brought up 'open in windows' (I think). This enabled me to then save that screen in to my 'Favorites' on my desktop rather than to bookmark it on the Edge screen which I have never done before.

It says you can cancel an update by highlighting it and deleting but nothing happened! If I remove Edge altogether my laptop reverts to just Windows but then, although that solves my problem, the windows keep showing reduced size on my screen and attempts to enlarge them permanently do not seem to work!

I have now set my updates so they ask me first in the future - but how can I rid myself of this last Edge update.

I am just 80 and thought I was quite tech savvy but this has beaten me! I am running Windows Version 1903.

    Thanks everyone

    Hi moggie.

You are fighting a battle you cannot win. The new Edge is Edge. Even if you could go back MS must be in the process of dropping support and development and using an unsupported browser places you at risk.

I'm not aware of any official date but if they are pushing the new Edge back to 1903 users they are trying to convert the install base.

I would try another browser. Not saying to use Chrome but Chrome allows you to click settings, tools, Create a Shortcut and this places a shortcut on desktop.

Maybe another user has figured out how to get on desktop with Edge but I haven't. The new Edge does have a way to pin to task bar but in my opinion that is only appropriate for a couple of key sites.

Vivaldi is based on Chromium, like Edge.
Additionally, Vivaldi comes from the same team that developed Opera.

    FWIW.
