You only have one Email Account, so quite easy to test other Email clients.
You can operate as many Email clients as you want at the same time, or just use the Web Mail access method.
I would also look in to having another Email Account, that is useful.
Do some research in to using IMAP protocol instead of POP.
Well the program is well and truely corrupted I can’t even delete it no matter what I have tried. It works fine until a couple of days ago no thanks to windows build updates. I do move on with the times. Tried Thunderbird and when emails came in then I closed the program opened it again the emails disappeared so that program is a no no. Currently reluctantly using outlook.
The email I use is bigpond and it is fine with the connections etc and there is nothing wrong with that regardless of their settings to which I know is right and accurate.
Have wound back windows 10 build 1909. Will leave it at that for the time being till I get around to reformatting the system or buy a new computer which is not an option atm due to many places in lockdown and nothing moving. Had to buy new printer and even they were very scarce here too.

Try uninstalling it with Revo Uninstaller.
I run Windows Live Mail 2012 (As this has several features which Windows Mail still hasn’t) & on occasion one of my Virginmedia Email account will refuse to sync but does so if I manually sync.
Thunderbird is used by millions of people and does not delete email.
Check you mail using a browser and you will likely see they are there.
If you click on the UNREAD filter it only shows unread email, click again and all mail appears.
Same sort of effect if you click on Starred.
