RE: CAD. You'd set it to auto clean then whitelist cookies. For security software cookies add domain to list of expressions and whitelist it. Then save.

Clean links just cleans the tracking element from links. Sometimes it will prevent a link from working in which case you just disable for that tab and reload the page. (Refresh button)

Here the download link doesn't work until Clean Links is disabled for the tab. It rarely needs to be disabled.

    @DKS

What is your security software that sets cookies?

Deleting cookies in no way affects the additional browser security on my machine.

Thanks, Callender. I have Firefox set to clean cookies, cache and history when Firefox shuts down. That reduces the trackers that CCleaner finds to an acceptable level. I am reluctant to go any further (deeper) out of concern that I'll get in over my head. I thank you for your help and I am going to consider this Solved.

Wanted to resurrect this thread for a recent, puzzling experience.

I recently installed DuckDuckGo with DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials as my default search engine on Firefox. Previous search engine was Chrome using Chrome.

CCleaner now reports average of 15K trackers before cleaning. Previously, it was about 9K. Not really concerned, but I remain in the camp that the Health Check in CCleaner is likely marketing propaganda.

Change home page to start.duckduckgo.com and configure it's settings.

Personally I ditched it and switched to this:

You'd also need to configure Ccleaner to keep DDG settings cookie.

Note screenshot is latest Ccleaner with custom clean and health check crap disabled.

    Here's a list of settings.

DuckDuckGo Settings: Search Better on DuckDuckGo

Turning some of them on decreases privacy.

Also from another privacy focussed browser:

Your privacy is also affected by which search engine you use. Read about each recommended search engine in UR, so that you can decide which one best fits your needs, values and privacy level.
    DDG is not recommended.

Personally I just switch search engines when I need to.
