How to STOP/DELETE the new EDGE Browser ?

    (( Windows 10 Ver. 10.017763 Build 17763))

After the most recent update (June 6) the new EDGE Browser suddenly became my default Browser without my consent, I was able replacing my long time Firefox browser default, reverted to my original choice but.. is there a way to prevent/stop Microsoft Edge imposing its dictatorial interference and make sure EDGE remain inert in the background if not deleted altogether from my system? I truly would appreciate any suggestion. Thanks in advance.

Outch.. the piece of garbage EDGE doesn't even show up in the notification set setup, nor in the program list, it only shows up in the START app list menu.. even then the only options there is : "pin to task bar, run as administrator or open file location".. this is truly frustrating!

This EDGE monstrosity only show up in the START menu with limited control, very likely meant it to be that way!

But that's not going to disable/remove/uninstall Edge.

Edge is an integral (whether "valuable" or useful is another question) component of Windows 10 and cannot be removed ... Ignored, yes, but removed, no.

It's no different to the old IE - that was set as the default browser for previous Windows, until changed by the user. Edge in Win 10 is no different. Just be thankful it can, in fact, be changed.

Maybe you have not been blessed with the latest (may-jun) updates, to differ from what I have after the update! The non existent Edge notification set up, or is it ? :-( !

    OK
I figured that much, the impossibility to contradict the dictatorial imposition, BUT.. where in the heck can one IGNORE MS EDGE..It doesn't even exist in the list of apps anywhere, only shows up to pin or to start... I wish I get a straight answer to this headache.

Jacee mentioned the "Edge Notification".. there is no Notification concerning Edge period. You did too, am I the only one stuck with a limp MS Edge browser???

If it doesn't show in Programs and Features or the subcategory of Turn Windows features on or off there probably isn't much can be done but it may be futile as it may come back with each of the twice-monthly Version Upgrades and maybe with a Build update.

In the Start menu it can be right-clicked and turned off and Unpinned from the Taskbar. So far not all Web sites have migrated away from supporting IE11 so it may be awhile before that changes to a default of opening Edge.

Hi Rickerz. The solutions below will prevent Cortana or context menu searches from launching Edge and Bing. It's your PC, you should choose your preferred browser and search engine.

The solution if Firefox is your preferred browser is Foxtana Pro.

Foxtana Pro - Redirect Cortana – Get this Extension for 🦊 Firefox (en-CA)

For Chrome based browsers, Chrometana & Edge Deflector accomplish the same task. I've used these 2 extensions for more than 2.5 years with zero grief. I still use the original programs but Marc Guiselin has released an updated version.

What's the headache? It's there (to stay, unfortunately for your requirements), just ignore it.

I'm not quite sure what you're really looking for. If you set your default browser as something else, Edge is effectively ignored. It just sits there as an icon in your Start menu which is never activated (If you're really that keen on things, you can even delete the icon from the Start menu .. I wouldn't, just leave it sit there).

I wish I get a straight answer to this headache.
What more of answer do you want?

OK, I already somehow , perhaps temporarily reverted the default to what I wanted to be, BUT I wanted to be sure I can get hold on what Jacee and you referred to as a "SETUP NOTIFICATION FOR EDGE".. neither of you answered the question :Where is this menu Item".. I don't have it! have you both missed the latest upgrade (May - June)? to be unaware of what happened to a missing EDGE Notification setup?
No problem now! YES so far , I was able to twist EDGE's whim to be the default. I am simply concerned it might occur again!
I do however than the both of you and Jacee to take the time to help out.

Thank you for the enlightenment. I am no fond of Cortana nor Foxana.. I found out AI to be..UH unhelpful , you ought to know that in all honesty!. That was not in anyway my prime concern, I tried to follow an advice to simply check in SYSTEM the EDGE Notification setup.."but noooo there is no such a thing :" as Steve Martin might say! Cheer man!

Irrelevant. Whether or not that setting exists, the example image shown, and the options available, would not have removed/deleted/blocked/stopped/whatever Edge. They were just all "internal" settings for Edge to use.

Yes, it will/may happen again. Whether it's Edge or any other aspect of Windows 10, it's not uncommon for an update to reset certain default settings - whether it's Edge as the default browser, or the customised colour of your mouse pointer, certain types of updates will change back to Windows defined default settings.
