So Edge [Edge Chromium] users can once again get direct access to their Favouites. That's great news.

Is it human-readable and can it be copied across to backups for restoration to the same computer? Or to other computers?

    Denis
I opened that bookmarks file using Notepad. The syntax is quite readable but probably only designed to be read by Edge & Chrome - probably all Chromium based browsers

Just a point idgat, I didn't 'import' anything into Firefox, the list was just there. i have just been into it again and the list really is very old and none of them are ones that I have used in recent times. I tried to 'import' into Firefox but nothing happened. These are the instructions that I followed....

Well folks, please don't ask me how, but I've now got ALL of my favourites back. I have been following idgat's ( and others) instructions and I have clicked on this and I've clicked on that, I have imported and exported this and that and yes, the full list is back again. Absolutely amazing.

I am just a few weeks away from my 80th birthday and, I would just like to offer my considerable thanks to all who have offered help to resolve this (and other) problems that I have had, the help really is very much appreciated.

What I would like to do now is to make a backup of this list so that if I run into this problem again at any time I will be able to overcome it more easily. Would someone be good enough to explain the bet way to do this please.

    Thanks again everyone.
Backup what - favourites or the PC?

    The favourites list.

As I have said earlier, i make backups of my data files (drive D:) to two separate external disks everyday using Macrium reflect but, I don't backup my O/S and programmes which are held on my c: drive, perhaps I ought to do this aswell.

As mentioned before, just export the favourites to to a .html file to a folder of choice. I store mine on OneDrive for access from any PC.

Personally I always use the software mentioned here to backup and restore browser profiles:

    All of my Favorites lost

    https://www.softpedia.com/get/System...-Restore.shtml

    Choose what to backup.

Choose where to save backup and name the file (maybe add date to file name)

To restore make sure that the browser is not running then choose backup and browse to the backup file.

In Options > Setting choose which modules to include or remove from the drop down list in the GUI:

Moot point now that you've got it working but the easiest way to import from directly from another browser is during the installation process. After that, gets a bit messy - already installed browsers only like importing from an htm(l) file (which other browsers create as a result of the export process).

Could print to pdf ... settings elipse (that's the word I was looking for !! - that's what the 3 dots are called) > Print > Save as > name and save. You'll have to do this page by page.

Else, save the link as a shorcut to Favorites, or copy and paste the link as a shortcut file on your Desktop and save that somewhere.
