Edge (Chromium) duplicating favourites on sync/massive RAM usage

    Hi all,

Not sure if anyone can relate to these issues or offer any advice.

Has anyone noticed that the new Edge has issues with syncing favourites? When I turn on syncing, it seems to duplicate my favourites 5 or 6 times. My favourites bar for example is a complete mess of duplicate favourites.

I thought to solve this I could use Edges "Remove Duplicate Favourites" feature, and when I click on it I get a box asking if I want to remove them and when I press "remove" I get a spinning wheel saying it is removing duplicate favourites. However during this time, my PC starts to struggle massively because in Task Manager, one of the MSEDGE.EXE processes RAM usage is flying up - I have 8GB RAM and it just keeps rising until it reaches around 7.9GB and then after a long time, I get an out of memory error in Edge. Also numerous virtual memory limit errors in Event Viewer when this happens.

This should be a simple process to remove the duplicates, and I wouldn't have to do it at all if sync didn't duplicate my favourites when syncing, so does anyone else have this issue and know a fix?

    Thanks

I do not think the high ram usage is actually a symptom of the remove favourites in Edge

I think you have actually done as here
How to Remove Duplicate Favorites in Microsoft Edge Chromium
could you please either try it, if not, or confirm that is the procedure you used.

You have not by any chance configured anything in
    about:flags
on Edge special mode have you

    Thanks for the reply.

The guide you have shown me is how I remove the duplicate favourites, or attempt to. But when doing so the RAM usage climbs massively so it is definitely something to do with that particular process being carried out.

I haven't edited or changed anything in about:flags, it is just the default Edge installation. It's just frustrating me how it keeps duplicating all my favourites but the tool to remove them causes a massive memory leak.

    Anybody else noticing this?

I realise it is only when you attempt to delete the duplicate favourites, but please try the following
    1. Turn of sync - for edge if it is on and especially of course for favourites
How to Turn On or Off Sync for Profile in Microsoft Edge Chromium
    Item 6 on tutorial
However for the purpose of solving the problem I suggest you simply turn off all sync in edge
and also make sure no other windows 10 device is signed in.

    2. If that does not solve the memory use when you attempt to delete favourites, keeping that setting off try

    3. Open Edge disable ALL extensions
The … dots top right - extensions and turn them off
then try again with the delete of duplicate favourites

    4. If that does not work still leaving sync off try opening edge in private
right click Edge icon on taskbar
    New in Private window
    and try from there.

    5. If none of those work - do you have ANY 3rd party maintenance tools of any sort installed please.

I have same issueb with multiple duplicates of links and folders when turning on sync.

Had same issue with remove duplicates option (more or less froze Edge and took hours to finish). Turning off sync, disabling extensions and open in private as suggested above, removed all duplicates (47.000+) in matter of 20 seconds. Thanks!

Still can't use sync favorites option though as for every time it will just add more duplicates.
What to do? Take a backup of favorites, enable sync, delete everything and then import backup? So annoying. I only really want to sync with my phone but don't know why all the duplicting.
