Cannot open email attached file

About a week ago, I was unable to open an emailed attached file. Doesn't matter the format; e.g. pdf, mp4, xls, etc. doesn't matter. I can save the file and then opened the saved file without problem. I have researched this problem and tried every suggestion I could find including disabling virus and firewall protections. I thought I'd give it a shot since thi8s site has so many geniuses on it. I'm running Windows 10 32-bit, and Windows Live Mail. I have several email addresses and the problem is the same with all of them. I read that the problem is in Windows, not the email client. What say you?

I know that this post is late compared to the time I first originated this thread. That said, I discovered (by accident) the solution. Microsoft did a major upgrade to windows the other day. When the final bootup occurred, a window from Adobe appeared suggesting that I needed repair Acrobat Reader. You can easily find the instructions for the repair online. In any event, I followed the simple instructions. Voila, problem solved. All of the stuff that I went though that you can read on this thread, were unnecessary.
