Windows is ignoring Thunderbird as Default Email app

Windows 10 (64-bit) v1909, Build 18363.778 has two user accounts. Myself (Administrator) and my wife (a Standard user). I have Thunderbird (TB) Email client installed (v68.7.0 32-bit) and this is recognised as being the default email app on both profiles. Both profiles are Local accounts.

On my profile if I right-click on a file and select "Send to" "Mail Recipient" it behaves correctly and attaches the file into a TB email.

On my wife's profile doing the same thing causes the procedure to create a Microsoft Outlook (MO) profile rather than launching TB.

Of course she can open TB first and then attach the file but she should not have to do it this way. Why is Windows ignoring the default TB email app and trying to push her into setting up a MO profile? Does anyone know how to stop this happening?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello @wiganken,

Have a look at these [ I know the first one is for Chrome but it might give you clue! ] =>

Cannot make Chrome as default browser.
Windows 10 default programs keep changing.

    I hope this helps!

Thanks, but the links didn't help.

I reaffirmed TB as my default email app but that didn't work either. It may be a corrupt profile but as far as I know everything else works as it should so no big deal (for now).

Is there a way to 'Repair' a corrupt profile?

    Solved it: -
Source = Default e-mail client not chosen ?

In-a-Nutshell text extracted from the link: -

But you should set both (Default) values to the same value. For example, if you want Mozilla Thunderbird as your default MAPI email client, you have to modify both like so:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Clients\mail > (Default) value = Mozilla Thunderbird
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail > (Default) Value = Mozilla Thunderbird

Editing the registry on my wife's profile fixed it.

    Thanks for your input.

Hi Paul - My thread is showing as "Solved" on my computer. Or are you referring to the "Source" thread from which I got the answer? If so then that thread is not mine so I can't mark it "Solved".

Maybe a little confusion but at least my thread is sorted and "Solved". Thank you.
