    Search defaults to Bing Browser

    V 1909 OS Build 18363.752

Sorry if this has been answered- here goes from new Win 10 install:

I type in the search box and the default browser is Bing, I've tried a lot of the 'solutions' to try and change the default to Chrome. This is what I've done:

    1) Changed default browser in Settings>System>Default Apps>Google Chrome
    2) Uninstalled AND reinstalled Chrome
    3) Installed Chrometana Extension

I have NOT tried the Registry solution yet.

    Any help is much appreciated

You're correct, discussed so many times. This is also a moving target as MS keeps revamping this- seems a weak underlying concept.

Out of date FYI - i.e. believe it can't now be done - for background:

Thank-you for the reply. I do have to ask why these other solutions are posted and some people have success, but I'm in an endless loop of trial and error.

You might see if Edgedeflector still works. Long time since I heard anything about it though.
firefox - How to change the browser used for web results in Windows 10 Search - Super User

The goalposts keep moving- MS changes things. What used to work hacking these things suddenly no longer works. As this sort of thing has been much discussed you will pick up old and now outdated posts suggesting methods that no longer work.

References to Cortana and the search bar together should show the text applies pre-1903 when taskbar search and Cortana were separated, for example.

I appreciate your feedback. I don't think I can mark this as solved, I will probably try Edgedeflector in the future, but looking at the timeline, it doesn't look like it's been updated since 2018.

Try posting your question under this article about it...
Windows 10 search bar now with Bing Visual Search

Point is, I think the position is that MS has closed the loop on this and it may not be possible to directly change it.

Hi Fyreman, welcome to Ten Forums.

Check this thread for a solution that did work for mikehd using 1909. The solution presented was specifically for use with Firefox, however; the last post identifies a Chrome solution.

Feel free to post any further questions about resolving this PITA feature.

    Cheers
