    Uninstalling and Reinstalling Google Chrome

My system has 16 GB of ram and when I can figure out how to update that information, I will.

I uninstalled a fully updated Google Chrome AFTER saving the Google program files, onto my Desktop, which has served me very well storing many account passwords, bookmarks, extensions etc.

That fully updated version is the same version installed within minutes this morning.

    No third party downloads.

Upon reinstalling, I would like to make my new Chrome version be blessed with the Google Program files from immediately before reinstall.

Signing into Chrome with my gmail accounts is not an option and I'd be thrilled for Chrome to work just as it did a couple hours ago with none of my google accounts being synchronized but, with all passwords, bookmarks and such this morning.

    - - - Updated - - -

how do I reinstall my bookmarks from my "re-uninstall/reinstall" Google program files that I saved?

I would assume the procedure for must of the rest I am seeking would be the same?

If you copied the right files out before deleting Chrome you should be able to copy bookmarks back into the default folder.

What I would first do is enter the Default folder and I would rename the ones that are currently there. Bookmarks and bookmarks.bak

For the last however long it's been I just sign in. I read you do not want to do.

Not sure it is going to be as simple for the other categories. Thankfully lots of information on google, like passwords are in file Login Data

There is this thread I was on in the last few months and they had documented how to get passwords in, was not a copy and paste.

Can't Import Passwords in Chrome 79

Google Chrome stores the bookmark and bookmark backup file in a long path into the Windows file system. The location of the file is in your user directory in the path "AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default

Ken, I believe you have nailed it and this makes sense.

Here are the files I am looking at, two of the old first, with one of the properties shown then the same of the new.

Rename which files what exactly and put where?

The first two show images/info of the "old" version I'd like to reclaim.

The second two show images/info of the "new" version I wish to make like the "old" version did.

Both "versions" are the same updated Chrome build and most current.

    Thank you

In terms of bookmarks is what I mentioned to rename.

So go Default folder and rename Bookmarks > BBookmarks

    Bookmarks.bak rename BBookmarks.bak

Then I would copy the files you have from before install, bookmarks and bookmarks.bak into default folder

I'm not sure how to "Move" / "Restore" app/ extensions.

I'll look. Did you customize them in some way?

Please specify when speaking of "files" and "folders" if you are referring to "old" or "new".

I have only set "preferences" on app/extensions and would like them to work as they did prior to uninstall/reinstall.

Searching the "old" Google folder prior to uninstalling, image attach showing CRX "hits".

Then I am attaching image of the old Extension json file

NOTE: upon review after editing/adding image, the images appear in reverse order which I hope is obvious.

When you had your old version of Chrome installed did you copy the folder call Default. (or at least all the files in that folder)

It was down that path appdata\local\google\chrome\user data\

The default folder is where your bookmarks are store, your passwords, your history and it appears from the last posting the basics of your extensions.

Your apps appear to be the basic apps, are they not there is new version?

Yes Sir, before uninstalling/reinstalling I copied and saved my complete Google folder and it has all the folders I've shown, and the best I can discern, those you are suggesting.

I have no answer about the extension files and cannot tell if you are correct, most likely, or incorrect.

No doubt exists that if our communication was more direct, or say you were here, you'd grasp this little issue and be able to walk me thru it rapidly, maybe in less than 10 minutes.

I'd be thrilled to send you a paypal for some spoken time via phone.

got most passwords, many bookmarks, but not all.

extensions? some but not the most recent and preferences? well, it is up and truly could have been a non-issue solved sans operator error.

for right now I am relaxing, feeling great and if you get a chance, check you PM's and thank you so much for sharing your expertise and knowledge.

you words certainly got me back on the right path!
