I have downloaded the geek.zip file and will install it.

Before I uninstall FF I think I am going to try uninstalling Malwarebytes first. I have a couple reasons for that. I've not been able to run FF smoothly (in normal mode) unless MWB has the Ransomware and Exploit protections turned off. This has been true since upgrading from W7 to W10 in January. That would indicate some sort of issue between W10, FF, and MWB and things always run better when MWB is modified.

The second reason is there's always a "Malwarebytes Services" process running in Task Manager and it won't let me delete it under any circumstances, "Access denied". That bothers me. Also, that file is larger in normal mode than it is in Windows Safe mode. I had earlier asked about uninstall vs turning off MWB and now I see the logic in doing an uninstall.

MWB does have an uninstall option in the programs listing. Should I use geekuninstall or the MWB uninstall?

Firefox questions. I will backup the entire profile folder and the profiles.ini file to a thumb drive. What about the installs.ini file?

If I delete and reinstall FF what is the procedure for using my old profile with the new install? Previously I had only backed up those 50 or so "loose" files that weren't in folders and just copy and pasted them into the new profile. Do I copy and paste the whole darn thing into the new profile, or can I go into the ini files and just change the names to my old profile name?

Best, safest, and most complete way of uninstalling MBAM is with their support tool. It will completely uninstall and give you the option to clean install when done. You don't have to, it's an option.

For any security software alwaysuse the dedicated uninstaller. Geek Uninstaller is for regular programs.

    Check info here:

    https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topi...moval-process/

There is a link to download mbam-clean.exe - the uninstall utility.

Note: I don't use MBAM myself.

EDIT: Ignore the above if you are using MBAM Anti-Exploit. You'd need other guidance for that.

I'm going to mark this solved but I want to do a brief recap in case anyone else has this very weird behavior.

I spent some time on reddit /r/firefox and on the Malwarebytes forum discussing various options.

I made a few minor changes to MWB. Like changing the check updates time from once a week to once an hour. Shouldn't have affected anything. These are things they suggested I should do for maximum safety.

For Firefox I tried running it as administrator in normal mode. That worked but only partially. It opened the top menu but tabs didn't work. Then I tried running in a private window and that did work as far being able to browse but of course none of my logins would work in a private window. But I was at least encouraged.

The next morning I tried running as admin again but this time it opened in windows normal mode and I was able to browse normally. It's like everything was healing itself with very little input from me. I honestly don't know why it all started coming together without having to do any re-installs of MWB or FF.

Last night everything seemed okay but I had an action needed notice from Windows Security. Virus Protection was off but I couldn't turn it on. This morning I turn on the computer and it seems that problem has fixed itself too.

I haven't updated to FF 75 and I don't plan on doing it for a while. I need a break from all this stuff and there's no guarantee it won't start all over again.

    You should be fine.

Is your Malwarebytes set to register in Windows Security center. (Start MWB, Settings, Security tab, there is an option to register in Windows Security Center. )

If set to on Windows Defender defers to MWB for real time protection.

If it does act up I would suspect Malwarebytes first. I would open MBW, click settings, and go to bottom of general tab > Restore default settings.

If still an issue, MBW settings, Account, copy and paste license key, deactivate, uninstall. Test.

Personally I haven't had an issue with MWB re-installs, but that is my experience.

Glad to hear it is working, that is what counts.

The Windows Security Center option is set to off and has been from at least when I updated to W10 in January.

Uninstalling and reinstalling MWB will be my first option if this happens when I eventually upgrade to FF 75.0.

    Thanks again.
