I use many of the features to sort and organise many of my incoming emails into folders for reading later (I have a lot of Information mails from suppliers and other contacts, not urgent enough for instant action so read them later when I have time)

If you use something like outlook or the free Thunderbird email application they both have rule building facilities - I'm sure others do too

If there is an unsubscribe link, I would NOT use it. Things will just likely get worse.
On another forum, someone said that clicking on the link is tantamount to confirming the recipient's address.

Definitely. They now know you're real.

and they know you are reading junk.

You only unsubscribe from companies you know are reputable, a known store, a known organization.

Others you block, id as spam in the hopes the mail provider builds a filter or build your own email rules.

Is there a keyword in body or title that you could possibly build a filter / rule on.

Yeah, the biggest problem in trying to block spammers is it takes only a one-character change to avoid a block so it keeps us chasing our tail like a dog, not productive.

Mark/Move to Spam folder, then after a time Gmail spam filter will learn.

Unsubscribe links are fake and just mark you as a live Email address. Only use such links with reputable Email.

Even previewing the Email will mark you as live and a reader of spam Email thus useful to them to add to their mugs list.

Whilst you can set up manual Rules they randomise/change the data often which is faked anyway so wasted effort.

If it becomes a big problem then the only thing you can do is to create another Gmail address and stop using the old one. A real pain I know. It depends how desperate you become.

I believe that spammers use automatic emailing software so they are unlikely to get fed up of sending spam and, once a spammer has your address, it can be targetted indefinitely. As others say setting up rules to block them isn't very successful. As Barman58 said try using Thunderbird email client which might filter the spam more efficiently.

Over the years I've found the gmail spam filter better than most, I also use multiple email services. I provide those wanting to email me regular news etc, that I suspect will potentially get out of hand, to a secondary address that has it's own spam filter ( Free Email Accounts @GMX.com: Secure & easy to use ), and then automatically transfer all mail to the gmail account and it's spam filter, and then use my filters to sort the remaining mails into their own folders.

If any mails get through the dual spam filter the content that is likely to be repeated, (most are trying to sell something, service or product), is used to setup a filter that deletes the offending mail automatically

Using this system I may see a couple of spam emails in my mail for actual reading each month, (I have had as many as 3000+ mails in a month ), any that get through are reported to the providers systems as spam and manually deleted

I mentioned the possible use of thunderbird or outlook built in filters for those not using gmail
