HD failure now no emaill acc

    Hello
Not sure which direction is should go in.
Should I forget the 30 odd years I have used the email address for and just set up a new account.
That's not really an option as I have some legal and business emails I would like to retrieve.

On top of that my old email address was an @virgin.net which is still working off my tablet [Galaxy 3] which is showing new arrivals and some limited old stuff but it was threatened in 2015 with being cut off.
As of this morning I am still getting Virgin emails to my tablet but nothing on my pc.

Can anybody untangle this mess I have got into please.
This all started when my HD failed which I had a recovery done but now don't have any email account showing on my repaired PC and I'm not sure how I should set that up again.

    Thanks

So you just need to set an email client for virgin is that correct? Most email you can get via a web browser as well as client

Well I've not found that a simple thing to do.
Virgin were supposed to be shutting their email acc down on google and moving it over to a new Virgin MEDIA emailservice, but as I was still getting all my emails through on the old address I stayed put.

What seems to be happening I think, is that they have now shut the door on any new plain virgin mail acc and only allowing virgin media ones to join. This means a new acc name will not show up my old email as the old address will be different.

I think I should have been transferred over to my new virgin media acc but I can't find any note of this anywhere.

Maybe I should dig out a contact number for their virgin media email acc and ask them for help.

    Help | Virgin Media

    - As I understand, your HDD has been recovered but you can't log in to your Virgin email acct ? But you can on your tablet ?

    - Not sure, seems your old acct with Virgin should have been automatically merged with their new system, or should still be active unless they notified you differently.

    - Virgin Help link above. Note their response may be delayed due to the COVID crisis. But if you can still access your acct on the tablet should be good ?

What is the email client [email application]?

What happens when you try to add this email account to that email client? In other words, what's the problem?

Are you currently a VirginMedia subscriber?
Is the account set up to use the new virginmedia server information?
    imap.virginmedia.com
    Port 993
    SSL yes
    smtp.virginmedia.com
    Port 465
    SSL yes
If you’re using the Windows mail app then you add the port numbers to the end of the server:
    imap.virginmedia.com:993:1
    smtp.virginmedia.com:465:1

Gents the email client was a Windows live mail version and I'm using Internet Explorer then google.
When I try to set it up nothing happens but I'm not sure I've added all the correct data in the correct places.

Bastet ,I'm not sure if I am a genuine Virgin media customer. As I said I have been using my old original email on @virgin.net
and it was working so I would like to gain access again to my old historical emails.
I do have a copy of an email from Virgin Media sent me showing account number and their reference number so I may well have an actual Media acc somewhere

If you’re no longer a Virginmedia customer then you’ll have lost access to the virgin.net account, VM have been closing down non active accounts recently, if this is the case then you will have lost all the emails. You can try logging in to webmail using the account details & if successful move the emails to a none VM address - you’d have to attach them to a new email & send them to yourself.
If you have Virginmedia broadband then you still have the email.
I have an NTLWorld account which is hit & miss as to whether it will download mail using Live Mail, I’ve switched to Windows Mail app & use live mail rarely.
You still need to use the virginmedia servers.
