Can't prove it, no hard evidence, but I still believe it's a timing issue closing all those multiple processes and releasing locks on a bazillion handles. You ought to run Process Manager again Firefox when it's got all the separate processes running. Busy, busy.
You mentioned that you are experiencing the issue in many systems, that being so I think makes it probable that the issue is being caused by something you doing in all your computers. I would look for something in common, something you are using or doing in all your systems.@bo elam -
Hi. I have tried on three different systems, one with Norton Security, one with Windows Defender and one running Linux Mint.
Intermittent on all three.

Antiviruses scan files and folders when programs are closed, if the scanner doesn't release files quickly as is supposed to (when something is not working right), they lock files, this lock can cause Firefox to keep running after is closed. If a while goes by and the AV doesn't release files, then you have to reboot the computer to free the lock or kill the processes in task manager. Perhaps this is not your case but I seen it before in other peoples computers often enough to know that checking your AV (WD excluded) as the potential cause of the issue is worthwhile.
You could try disabling Multiprocess (E10's), to get Firefox running in one process like it used to, to do this you need to create a System variable with this:
Variable name: MOZ_FORCE_DISABLE_E10S
Variable value: 1
It ll look like this afterward.
I am using the System variable to disable Multiprocess. I have been disabling MP since the beginning. Before it was much simpler to do it but now Mozilla makes it harder to discourage people from disabling MP. So now we are forced to create the variable to disable MP.
IMO, Firefox works nicer with MP disabled but also IMO, I doubt MP is causing your issue.
Edit: Compumind, the guy above me always disregards any suggestion I give anyone. I would ignore him, don't let him confuse you, he tries to pass himself as a Firefox expert but his knowledge doesn't even reach elementary level. A few months ago in another thread some users were talking about the Firefox profile folder, and its location. I knew the location that was posted was wrong and pointed out the correct location of the Firefox profile folder, he questioned what I wrote with sarcasm. The standard location of the Firefox profile folder is not debatable. Either you know it or you don't, and he didn't. Someone who doesn't even know the correct location of the Firefox profile folder is someone who hasn't reached elementary level of knowledge of Firefox.

If you like you could try this to make a backup first:
It's infrequent but I did do a clean install of FF (latest revision) - still pops-up once in awhile.
Suggestion: On one machine only for test purposes use the 32bit version of Firefox and disable update checking which would install the 64bit version by default.
Remove Default Release profile and set another profile as default.
Disable auto updates:

You can use PatchMyPC to install updates:
Run Avast Browser Cleanup to disable or delete unwanted plugins:

See if it makes any difference.
