Emails not showing in Mail unless in view.

A while back I had this same issue, which I was only able to fix by removing accounts, uninstalling, rebooting and setting Mail up all over again.

It has happened again today. Now when a new email comes in, Mail will not show a notification or alert me at all until I click Mail to show the window. This is rather annoying and going through all that removing/uninstalling is more trouble than worth keeping the program.

My question is... has anyone else had this issue and did you fix it another way?

Mail notifications have to be enabled in three places:

    1. Mail, Settings, Notifications
    2. Settings, System, Notifications & actions, at the top for all apps
    3. Settings, System, Notifications & actions, near the bottom for the Mail app

And Focus assist has to be Off at Settings, System, Focus assist.

I'm not aware of anything else that would stop you getting Mail notifications.

I have all them set correctly. Yesterday the notifications were working properly.

This morning the same thing happened again. Mail told me I needed to fix something with my Gmail account. I had to sign into Gmail again, and then all was well. Even was getting notifications before I left for work. I got back home couple hours later (rain out at work) and this issue started once again. No errors or anything showing as to why they quit working.

I use 4 Mail accounts, Live Tile preview and Notification Centre works for all 4, but the badge notification does not work on the oldest Account, though it does on the other 3. Don't use the sound option.
Been using the Mail App for 6 years.

Been through the usual removing accounts, uninstalling the App and setting it all up again resetting several times, but that does not do anything to change that.
At a guess it is some obscure security thing with the old Account.

I got the CU yesterday and just checked now... there is another Security update.

Still not showing any alert until I maximize the Mail window.

I read a blip of an article on the web where it said some users of gmail may have a broken connection with the cumulative patches. I'm sorry, I've been looking for that article and can't find it!

That would explain it, I think. it happened roughly one month ago which would time accordingly with the last CU before yesterday.

On a side note, CU's used to bork my printer but that has stopped. Now it is MS's own Mail app getting borked

Well, to fix this "issue" Follow this......

Go to Settings, Apps, click on Mail and Calendar, click Advanced options. Click on Terminate, Reset and finally Uninstall. Then reboot.

After doing that, install Mail and Calendar again, setup your accounts. Click on the cog wheel in Mail lower left hand side. Click on Manage accounts. Click on the Gmail account. Click on Change mailbox sync settings. Make sure Download new email is set to "as items arrive". Click on Done. Click on Save.

Your new mail notifications should now work as they did before.
