    Firefox being trash as usual

All of sudden I cant open firefox, im getting the message "firefox is already running but is not responding, the old process must be closed to open a new window"

The problem is that process will not end, theres 3 tasks of firefox open for some reason and 2 will end but one remains and will not close. I followed a tutorial online to restart and delete the parent.lock in the firefox profile folder and then restart and this works but upon the second reboot the problem returns once again. Why is it doing this and how do I fix this permanently?

If you are getting the message very often, then is an issue and to fix it, you have to figure out what program in your computer is reading (and locking) files in the Firefox profile when you are closing Firefox. Is not easy to figure it out, but you could use Process Explorer for that.

Is hard to pin point exactly the program that's casing the lock but is easy to guess what it is. My guess is that it is an scanner. Perhaps your AV or another security scanner you are using real time. If you are using Windows defender, I doubt that would be it. So, any third party AV or scanner could be causing your issue (my guess).

I hardly ever see that message. I see one perhaps every couple of years. I am convinced the reason for that is because I don't use any scanners. For me, over the years, using no scanners has translated to never getting Firefox still running messages when closing Firefox.

Thanks for the reply. As it happens I did just install kaspersky security cloud and it did already occur to me that kaspersky might be the problem however I don't understand how or why kaspersky would be locking out the Firefox profiles further more if kaspersky is doing that how come more kaspersky users haven't complained of the same issue. Very confused. I'll have a look in kaspersky settings and see if there's any settings that allow me to stop kaspersky from doing what its doing to firefoxs profiles.

Dont be confused, but dont assume, you have to test, before you can be sure that is Kaspersky whats causing your issue. It could be, I know KIS has had issues with Firefox before, related to what I am suggesting you try. Try this:

    1. Disable the Safe money plugin. Or better yet, uninstall it, if it can be done. You can always reinstall it later

    2. Set Kaspersky not to scan encrypted connections

Sometimes (most of the time, IMO), disabling features is not a good test. And you have to uninstall the AV to really know for sure if it is whats causing an issue.

If you were not experiencing the issue with the AV you were using before installing KIS, and the issue only started after installing KIS, that would be an strong indication that indeed it is KIS whats causing the problem. What were you using before?

@eraldorh there is currently a compatibility issue with Malwarebytes 4.0.4 Premium and any version of Kaspersky 2020 since patch E, The solution that is the easiest workaround is to turn off the "Ransomware Protection" module in Malwarebytes 4.0.4 Premium or 15 day trial then restart your computer and Firefox should open normally.

This also might work: "tell" Kaspersky 2020 to exclude the directory[s] containing the FF profile[s]?

I just removed kaspersky and saved time, its not important enough to me to tinker with it to find out why its blocking that folder. Once i did that and rebooted i could reinstall and use firefox as before. Thanks everyone.
