I double checked the proxy settings. They are set as "use system proxy settings". I need to disable adblock and noscript independently and then together, if necessary. I am confident the first step advised by Mozilla will be "disable addons". Quite frankly, Firefox is of no use to me without addons for security, but perhaps there are better alternatives to the ones I use if they are indeed the source of the issue.

    Look into HTTPS Everywhere -

HTTPS Everywhere | Electronic Frontier Foundation

I don't use a proxy, so Firefox is set to use "No proxy".

In both the current versions of Edge and Firefox, the URL "http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/13853/windows-lifecycle-fact-sheet" is forced to its HTTPS version of the page.

Firefox support had multiple and rapid responses (multiple people in their forums like Ten Forums).
