    Edge icon missing in taskbar

    Greetings,
    Edge icon missing in taskbar-edge.png

I followed the instructions to install the new Edge side by side with Edge legacy. Now the icon for Edge legacy isn't showing on the taskbar.

I've tried rebooting. What else can I try?

    Thanks,
    Shane.

It's just a pinned shortcut- nothing magical. Try
Create Shortcut of Microsoft Edge in Windows 10
then pin it to the taskbar.

The shortcut isn't pinned. You can tell because it isn't underlined.

For example, the first three shortcuts here are pinned, but the last three aren't:

Is there any way to see the icon for Edge Legacy? I'm not sure where to start troubleshooting.

Thank you for your reply. Mine is. It's not underlined until Edge is launched. The tutorial tells you how to create a new one. I'm sure someone who's playing with the new browser will help you.

When you install the new Edge it replaces all shortcuts of the legacy Edge and points to the new Edge only.

I followed the instructions in the tutorial to create a desktop shortcut, however, the icon on the taskbar is still blank.

In my first post I mentioned that I installed the new Edge side by side with Edge legacy.

How can I find out why an app doesn't have an icon?

    Hey Shane

May I ask how legacy Edge was installed along side the new Edge?

As Jim said, if it was just a download of the new version of Edge it does actually change the pathways to the new version.
Or was it a separate download specifically for the legacy version of Edge?

Is it also just an icon issue? Can you open the legacy version and the new version at the same time?

    The instructions are here.

The instructions are a registry edit. You then download the new Edge normally. It looks like just an icon issue. I've never seen this problem for any other application. I'm not sure where to begin fixing this.

Ah yes, sorry I must have just missed the hyperlink.

    • Try browsing to this location "C:\Windows\SystemApps"
    • And look for the folder - something along the lines of "Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_"
    • Open that folder and right click and pin that .exe to the taskbar

This should also confirm that the installation of Legacy Edge is correct

    Edge icon missing in taskbar-pinned.png

If I pin Edge legacy to the taskbar, it looks like this. The app is closed (not underlined):
    Edge icon missing in taskbar-unpinned.png

If it's not pinned, it looks like this. The app is open (underlined):

It looks like pinning it to the taskbar is a work around. But I still don't understand why the there is no icon (if it's not pinned) or how to fix it.
