screen capture working badly with Chromium based browsers

I originally tried this is the Browsers thread, but got almost no views. One last try, here.

I recently switched to the Chromium based version of Edge.

Screen captures using the snipping tool, and the full-screen grab (windows key + print screen) both look bad. Pastels go to white, etc.

The same thing happens in Chrome.

It does not happen in Internet Explorer 11, and it didn't happen in the non-Chromium Edge browser.

Is this a bug, or an intellectual property protection feature? Any suggestions (other than using IE 11)?

I'm only one person, but on several machines I have had zero problems performing screen captures on screens including the new Edge browser. Could it possibly be a display driver issue?

    Maybe I'm just lucky

    Thanks for replying.

The screen capture works for me, but the resulting images don't look much like the on-screen display. (Except when I do it from IE 11.)

Driver issues? Likely enough. Something that I neglected to mention is that my display is HDR capable, and I have my nVidia drivers set up to provide that. (Of little use to me at the moment. I do it because I can.) I may experiment with that.

Aha. Turns out that having the "Play HDR games and apps" switch set to On in settings was the culprit. Screen cap works normally when it is off.

    Maybe not a common circumstance.

It had the fortunate side effect of showing that Windows Update had pushed nVidia driver 432.00 back onto the machine. (Probably because I had some "hotfix" drivers on, just for fun.) I've fixed that, now.

Very interesting. This will be good information for others who encounter similar problems.

Like I said earlier, I guess I was just lucky because I don't have an HDR capable setup
