So what do you think of the new Edge Browser (avail for all)

    Greetings,

I've been playing with the new Edge. Available for all via download --

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge

I have a low end Mini PC (Pentium) and any performance improvements with the browser will DEFINITELY be noticed. (Firefox takes 15 seconds to load 4 tabs I have ready for boot.)

At first Edge seemed much faster. It appeared to show the same tabs ready and willing in like 8 seconds. But... if you then click on one of those tabs -- only then does it ACTUALLY lode the site... which takes a few seconds. So I feel it's almost the same speed despite appearances.

I compared RAM usage to Firefox and it's identical.

I wasn't impressed with the available extensions. The entire browser game is extensions at this point. But I feel it's a good start and I love that MS actually hired a graphic designer for the icon.

    But what are YOUR THOUGHTS?

As for extensions they have some available from the MS Store and you can also use extensions from the Chrome Web Store.

Good idea, starting this thread. I look forward to seeing the replies. With that, I've not given it a try yet. The funny thing is I've got it on my insider's test machine, but I've yet to play that either.

Anyway good idea. Let the thoughts flow

Don't care for the Edge browser.

Every fresh browser is fast until it's working cache becomes bloated.

It took a while to find out how to do that.

    1. On the Edge extensions page, scroll down and on bottom right toggle on ALLOW EXTENSIONS FROM OTHER STORES.

    2. Then, in a move that isn't the least bit intuitive until you've tried it -- surf to the Google Chrome Web Store, find your extension, click where it says 'Add to Chrome' and then MAGICALLY it will say, 'Add to Edge' lol

I found UBlock with Adblocker from Chrome actually blocks ads where the Edge Adblocker let some slip thru

Have you tried the new Chromium Edge? Or are you basing your opinion on the old Edge (if so, I completely agree with you).

I've been running the Edge Dev preview on one of my machines for two month now. It is a total redesign, nothing like the old Edge at all. Seems to be as good as any other popular browser now.

Does this currently replace the old Edge browser? I though I read it did.

I put it on my main Windows 10 desktop and let it import my bookmarks from Google Chrome.

I don't use Edge or haven't up until this new version. So, how it performs doesn't really bother me.
