    How to turn off media autoplay in new chromium edge browser

    Does anyone know how to turn off media autoplay for a web site in the new edge browser? I found a setting in the settings section but take a look at this text and see if you can understand what this means:

    "Media will be blocked based upon what you've blocked in the past". So this must somehow mean that I can block media autoplay on a web site but for the life of me I cannot figure out where.

    Also, doing a search on the internet for this only yields info on how to accomplish this on the "old" edge.

    HI hsehestedt, If you type in edge://flags in the browser, then enable show block option in autoplay settings, it then gives you the
    option under the settings to block. Hope this helpsHow to turn off media autoplay in new chromium edge browser-annotation-2020-01-16-105847edge1.pngHow to turn off media autoplay in new chromium edge browser-annotation-2020-01-16-105943edge2.png

    @ethel,

    Thanks for that. That helps - somewhat. What I was really looking for was the ability to block media autoplay on a per site basis as in the previous edge browser. Here is a screenshot showing that capability in the previous edge. So far, I'm unsuccessful in finding that option in the chromium edge. The odd part is that the wording of that message I had in my original post. Since that setting depends upon what was set in the "past" it means that there must be some way to perform that blocking, otherwise how could you have blocked autoplay in the past???

    You can't.

    Thanks for the info. I always love when a new version of something is released that takes away functionality that you were using before .

    Check out this article from October 2019. I believe it provides directions to reactivate site specific permissions for Edge.

    Edge Removes The Block Option from Media AutoPlay Blocking

    Other than that, Vivaldi has this option natively for flash and with a chrome extension Disable HTML5 Autoplay.
