Anyone have a workaround to import Firefox info into Edge Chromium?

According to Microsoft, this has been something they've been working on for at least 5 months with no end in sight. I guess capturing Firefox users isn't important.

Anyway, in Edge Beta and now the official version, if you try to import from Firefox, you get an erroneous message saying to close all Firefox windows and try again, even when Firefox has never run since boot and there are no Firefox or Mozilla processes running.

Hopefully, now with the official version out, someone has figured out how to either manually move Firefox, data into Edge or prevent the bug in Edge from thinking Firefox is running when it isn't.

I also see official Edge did NOT automatically import from Edge Beta and does not have an option to import from Edge Beta, I guess Beta users are in the same boat as Firefox users.

So typical of the current Microsoft.

For Edge Beta select Favorites-Manage Favorites and at bottom select Export Favorites and it will save them as a HTML file.
Then on Edge under Profile select Import Browser Data and select the HTML file you saved.

Thanks. But.......... the problem is that those procedures do not work. All you get is a pop up saying to close all Firefox windows and try again. That happens even if Firefox has never run since boot and there are no Firefox or Mozilla processes running.

MS has been working on a fix for at least 5 months and have no clue when it might be fixed. I have no doubt there is a way to do it manually and am hoping someone knows how and can post it.

The biggest problem is years of browser history I want to retain. Curiously, a lot of people, including MS support see loss of browser history as a feature. LoL. Extensions are not really possible since there is no correlation between Firefox and Chromium extensions. Passwords are also needed but at least that can be a forced benefit since the only passwords needed are the ones that never made it into your password manager that works with all browsers.

I guess, if I can't get it all, the most important is the browser history. Hopefully someone knows a way to manually extract that data from Firefox and manually inject it into Edge. I hate to have to maintain Firefox just so I can fire it up to find something in browser history.

Yeah, I can get favorites from any browser into official Edge by exporting them as HTML from any browser and importing them into Edge. Results aren't pretty but workable. But Edge Beta users can have a lot of extensions from the Play Store and the settings for them.

Someone made a comment in a an article at a Windows news site that said if you turn sync on in Beta and official, a lot of stuff migrates into official Edge. Will try that.

My biggest hurdle will be my Firefox history/passwords.

Installed, no problem importing Firefox passwords and links history etc, took all of a couple of seconds. Scrolling is jerky and slow compared to Firefox and the Edge Beta, hmm, probably a setting somewhere I've missed although it seemed to have taken most from my beta settings which were basically most things off! Won't actually be using Edge much, if at all anyway as I prefer Firefox anyway, just keeping as an alternative / spare ;o)

Saving Firefox bookmarks to a .html file and then importing from that into Edge works like a charm. Edge puts them under "Other favorites."

I think its a waste of time hoping Microsoft will fix this at all. Further research shows the exact same issue importing Firefox data into Google Chrome. It's pretty obvious the process right down to the identical bogus error message about closing Firefox is identical in Edge and Chrome. So, the problem is almost certainly in the open source Chromium base that both Chrome and Edge are built on.

For a "work around" I use Firefox's Bookmarks, Show All Bookmarks and the Import and Backup tab to get to Export as HTML.
