    Hey KB,

I just tested the link below in Chrome and Firefox, and it's currently working for me.

I don't have anything yet to always open in a new window.

Three days ago my OS crashed, according to the Win 10 message, due to unsafe software. That was the same day that I got the Edge update. Possibly a coincidence?
The message didn't give me any details about the safety problem, BUT, the Win 10 installation was automatically repaired by a reinstall, which left me with many programmes disappeared! I am now spending a lot of time reinstalling several, mainly from the discs or downloads I saved when first installing Win 10 18 months ago.

Since the repaired Win 10 installation has been active, several messages have popped up and they now take a completely different format from that the message boxes used to have. Additionally, system messages on starting before the Welcome screen have been in a much larger and different style font!

Is there any information about this sneaked in version of the OS and what other nasty surprises are waiting to be discovered?

What does winver tell you about your OS now?

Are you doing image backups? If not:

    Backup your hard drive

The first thing you need to do is backup your current install. The best way to do this is to use Macrium Reflect Free to make an image backup to an external hard drive. If you don't have an external hard drive now is a good time to get one as regular backup should be a part of your normal process. You can get a 1TB external hard drive for $60 (less if on sale).

There are other backup programs available but Macrium is the one I use and recommend.

    • Acronis True Image. A full featured backup solution. ...
    • EaseUS ToDo Backup. A flexible solution in the backup arena. ...
    • Paragon Backup & Recovery. Enterprise options for home backup. ...
    • NovaBackup. Does the basics well, but only the basics.

Now I have finally got Firefox to stay on my pc , its time to get rid of this dreadful new edge. I cannot find any settings that will simply clear all browsing history automatically. I do not want anything that I have signed into to still be present when switching the pc back on. When my pc's are shut down, the power supply is also turned off.

    Settings/Privacy and Services/Clear browsing data

    Simple.

The new Edge is all that is installed on my system right now. It is a wonderful browser. Very happy with it.
