How to Chromecast from Edge browser

    Windows 10 Pro 1903 ver 18362.535
I have read that Edge supports the use of Chromecast to send from a webpage. In particular I quote this link How to Cast Media from Microsoft Edge to Google Chromecast
"The “Cast tab” will find all the Chromecast devices on your network. And you can choose which device you want to send the media to."

Well, it doesn't! All I get is a message popup on the right of my screen that states that Miracast is not supported on my PC
I have tried casting the same webpage on Opera and it sort of works, but not good as the video buffering is very bad. Firefox is as good as Edge regarding buffering but neither can find my Chromecast!
I know that the Chrome browser is supposed to be OK but I don't want to get involved with that!

    Any ideas?

I have made a further experiment comparing Edge with Chrome browsers. When playing a video from a TV broadcaster they both have a clear image and good audio (using the same URL on each browser in turn.)

Chrome can cast as specified, and Edge cannot. Chrome finds my Chromecast device but Edge can't. In the Devices and Printers page the Chromecast unit is shown greyed out even when Chrome is casting.

I think you have to enable a cast flag of one sort or another at edge://flags/
    this one works for me...

I got to the about:flags page (never heard of that before!) and it was available straight away. I only had a few options displayed but I found a hint that control/shift/D shows more. Tried that and it does.

Sadly, the Option you show in your image isn't on my page. (The current settings are all the defaults I guess.) Do I have to do something else to show that option?

I think we might be at cross purposes here? Which search field?

I found about:flags by copying that to the address bar of Edge So the page I found appeared in an Edge tab.

When I put edge://flags/ in the Run field from the MS flag, I got a message saying I needed a new "App" to do that. I clicked OK and got another message saying MS Store couldn't find one suitable.

So, remember that I am not a machine code expert, what did you mean me to do?

Sorry, I think, perhaps, you are using Legacy Edge and not the new Chromium Edge; am I right?

Whatever Edge was installed with Win 10 Pro when I changed from Win 7 Pro
Never heard of it coming in different versions! How can I tell?

I remember some time last year I did try to cast from Win 10 and it worked then!

First, I didn't have the Chromium version of Edge. I found a tutorial https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/144061-enable-microsoft-edge-side-side-browser-experience-windows-10-a.html which I followed to get that version without removing the basic version and installed following the instructions.

That gives me both versions and I have now followed your original suggestion to allow Chromecast to work.

Thus, I have enabled the Cast media Route Provider. (Note - I see there is another called
Mirroring Service but I haven't enabled that one.) After restarting Edge I now get my Chromecast appearing as a device to use.

Interesting point. When I start casting it has a comment "Chrome mirroring" but when I try and stop casting, it doesn't!
So far I have used the same video URL on both versions (not together of course) and the Legacy Edge plays smoothly but the Chromium version only plays smoothly when I am NOT casting! As soon as I start casting then the audio mutes.

Hi i'm just trying to make it known worldwide that this solution worked for me. I had to go to Edge://flags and enabled "Cast Media Route Provider" option. I then restarted the browser and I now have the ability to Cast my computer screen to all my Iot devices and TV's as wanted. This is a fix to override the "Edge" Chrome browser to allow it to stop saying all devices are unavailable or not supported while trying to cast the computer screen. The Flags option is the way to go :) .

For me the later updates on Edge Chromium sorted out the various problems I was having. I have now stopped using the legacy Edge and hope the new version will soon sort out some remaining little niggles soon, such as the History page!

    So, solved.

Just wanted to update this thread for how things currently are in Edge Version: 80.0.361.109.

This was order sensitive for me

    #1. ENABLE: #load-media-router-component-extension
    #2. ENABLE: #cast-media-route-provider

The second step actually get's the thing to work in the first place, but without the first step I was unable to get the casting icon to display for video players like YouTube.
