Microsoft Edge stopped working after V1909/KB4517245 Update

My winver is V1903 OS 18362.476.

Microsoft Edge stopped working after V1909/KB4517245 Enhancement Update

    Microsoft Edge would immediately close.

The default behavior of Microsoft Edge is to close immediately when all tab's close.
sfc /scannow did not find anything wrong.
Selecting Microsoft Edge and using Advanced options Repair and Reset did not fix the problem.

Uninstalling KB4517245 did not fix the problem.

Microsoft Edge has secret hidden url's that are default for home and new tab pages, which immediately close after opening & secret hidden "https://www.msn.com/spartan/dhp?locale=en-US&market=US&enableregulatorypsm=0&enablecpsm=0&ishostisolationenforced=0&targetexperience=default" .

Chrome does not successfully open this secret url but is able to open "www.msn.com".

Edge is unable to open "www.msn.com".

I was forced to use regedit to change the homepage of Microsoft Edge to "www.google.com" and enable the home button.

Edge is able to open "www.google.com". If I open "www.msn.com" the tab closes.

I am thinking about doing a repair from the V1903 ISO?

Edge worked fine on all my machines after updating to 1909. Try this tutorial.

Reinstall and Re-register Microsoft Edge in Windows 10

    Thanks ...

Yes, I hear that a lot. Why does Update only trash me?

I noticed other people have had problems with Edge after the update, so I am not all that unique or alone.

I was using Edge for credit card transactions, thinking it was more secure than chrome and firefox?

I thinks it is hilarious that Edge can not open "www.msn.com". Oh the Irony of it all.

    "www.bing.com" works, but not "www.msn.com".

I went from "www.google.com" to "www.bing.com" just fine.
When I changed from "www.bing.com" to "www.msn.com", edge immediately returned to bing.
I tried it a second time and the tab closed and edge terminated.
Edge termination is expected when all tabs have closed.
I think browsers closing when all tabs have closed is a poor design decision, but all browsers do it.

I think all of my different window 10 problems (Tab bar Search, Edge, File Manager Search ) may be related to Edge.

I have tried re-installing Edge and Cortana but maybe I need to shut them done and delete their files, reboot and re-install?

    Thanks to everyone.

I had never did an in place install and I could not find any information about it or a full length video of it.
I tried to repair by booting off the ISO, but that doesn't seem to be allowed.
I was told by the Windows installer to do an in place install with Windows running.

I booted up off the hard drive and did the in place install from within windows and it fixed all the problems that were introduced by the update.

I think this is the way to go in the future. Why waste all that time doing hours of research only to wind up doing an in place install anyway.

The in place install was easy to do, just run it.

I seem to have kept all my data, settings and applications. I think.

I was also updated from V1903 to V1909.

Windows 10 Build 1909 - Running HP Compaq 6005 Pro Small Format PC

    Thanks for sharing this information.

Had three problems with windows 10. HP Compaq 6005 Pro machines B95 Phenom 2 processors.

    1. SATA driver needed updating with HP ones as the one automatically installed by Windows 10 would not allow the computer to resume from sleep. Message me if you need any help on this.

    2. Tried Build 1909 through the windows update method and caused edge to disconnect from internet permanently. So tried a clean install of Build 1909 and work perfectly.

    3. Third issue is that on Build 1909 the dark version of the windows desktop background is replaced with an unfavorable lighter version. Got round that by copying the original background to a usb stick and pasting it into the

    C: windows/web/wallpaper/windows 10

And the old desktop background was back!

    All working fine now.
