Hidden chrome processes... what are they for/doing?

Hidden chrome processes... what are they for/doing?-chrome.jpg
When I opened process explorer and chromes internal task manager the number of chrome processes in each was very different and I would like to know why
chromes internal task manager listed 12 and I'm fine with the 12 it lists but process explorer listed 30 chrome processes
does anyone know why? or how to find out?

Out of curiosity I opened my Chrome task manager. I only have 7 items showing. Of those I'm show 1 browser, 1 website, 1 extension (I only have 1 installed and 3 puzzle looking things. Which I can't find out what the heck those are.

What do you have listed in your start up tab in task manager for windows? How many extensions do you have installed?

Ensure this setting is turned off:
    Attachment 254694
You can also stop Chrome background reporting by doing this:

    1. Run Regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome.
    2. Select Chrome key and in right-side pane, right-click and select "New -> DWORD (32-bit) Value" option. Set the new DWORD name as ChromeCleanupEnabled
    3. Again create a new DWORD and set its name to ChromeCleanupReportingEnabled
    4. Ensure both DWORD values are set to 0

Note Chrome Settings will shows some settings are managed by an administrator after doing this

I have quite a few extensions installed but I closed their processes from inside the chrome task manager (and watched the same process go red then disappear from process explorer) so it's not extensions or at least not the number of them

can I see a screen shot of the 'puzzle looking things' they sound familiar but I don't recall what they are off the top of my head

If this problem is occuring when you have chrome closed:

Go to 3 dots in chrome in the upper right. Click on settings. Got to advanced > system. Turn off Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed.

    If not:

It is perfectly normal to have multiple chrome processes when chrome is open. This is so chrome can prevent crashes and have its processes sandboxed. For more info, see here.

If you find your machine is slow with chrome open, You can also run chrome's own task manager to see if you have an extension causing this behavior.

Those are plugins, which are shown in chromes task manager.

There is a comic that explains more about chrome and how it does things, see here:

Here you go....There's only two now. In mine it's not showing/giving details as yours does. Hoovering my mouse pointer over it, it tells me what they are.

no wonder it's not giving details you have the title(name) part minimized so all you see is the icon .... go up to the vertical bar to the right of the word task and drag it right

You've misunderstood the issue I'm having it's not that there are so many open it's that there are more open than chrome reports in it's internal task manager what are these ones that chrome is trying to hide doing?

I would not mind if there were 50 processes open for chrome as long as chromes internal task manager listed all 50 and what they're for then I can make a decision if I want to let them run or not based on what they are but I had 30 listed in process explorer when chromes internal task manager only listed 12 so what were the other 18 chrome didn't list all about?

Have you right clicked the process and chose to open the folder its contained within to make sure it is really chrome?

Try running process explorer and see if the processes look suspicious. Make sure to run as admin and enable the virus total feature.

I doubt its anything malicious. Each tab has its own process.

    Yes it's really chrome...
I run process explorer that way as standard operating procedure
each tab having it's own process isn't an issue the issue is why are there extra chrome processes open that are not showing up in chromes internal task manager
