Edge Stable Version 79.0.309.12 (Official build) (64-bit) Icon issue

After Edge Stable auto update to version 79.0.309.12 It changed to the new Icon logo on the start menu, but not on the taskbar. I did unpin/remove it and I pinned the new Icon. Now whenever I start edge I get an extra Icon with the old logo on the taskbar.

There is no official Stable builds only leaks and the DEV and can build #'s are higher than yours.

I did not say Official, but I should have mention where I got it from:
Seems Microsoft's Chromium-based Edge Stable Release is around the corner

It may be that whatever issues I get on this not yet official version should not be discussed. I leave it to the mods to decide to close the thread.

    Cheers.

Stable is the leaked one, you are either on Beta, Dev or Canary if you got from legit sources so basically that is what you did say even if not what you meant.

Yes, I get the same in Edge Dev. The icon on the desktop and in the Start menu are taken from the .exe, as you'll see if you try to change the icon of the shortcut. In fact, it contains icons for all builds, Canary, Dev, Beta and Stable.

The taskbar shortcut is different, its icon is a .ico file. That has not been updated to the new logo. You can find it here:

    %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge Dev\User Data\Default\Edge Profile.ico

It appears that the Edge Profile.ico was created in your AppData the first time you pinned the Edge to the taskbar while it had its old logo. Signing in as another user then pinning the now updated Edge to the taskbar gets the new logo and its properties point to the .exe as the source.

To change the old Taskbar Icon to the new logo, right-click on it, then right-click on Microsoft Edge and select Properties. Here you can change the icon to point to the .exe as its source. Sign out then back in for the change to take effect. This will bring it in line with what a new user would now see when pinning Edge to the taskbar.

@Bree, thanks for the elaborate information how to go about this logo issue.
I do run edge Beta and I have no issue with it in regards to the Icon, it display the new logo correctly without me having to tweak anything.
The Icon issue only pertain to the not yet released stable version, leaked from an official Microsoft place.
I'll try your suggestions on that version and let you know.

    Take care.

    @Bree.

Though the (leaked) stable version display the correct new logo both on start menu and once pinned on the task bar, when edge start it open on a new icon with the old logo. Doubling the Icon on taskbar as per first post attacchment. On that taskbar logo, once in properties, it only give one logo selection inside change Icon, the old Logo.
Even when changing Icon on the correct new logo in taskbar, in which on properties it display several options as per your description, it always open with a separate Old Icon.
I guess this is only a concern or of interest for those, if any, who run the leaked version.

I had the 'old icon on the taskbar' issue. I first installed Edge Dev in VM back in June, so it may have been a leftover from that early build that the latest update didn't fix. Shouldn't be long before the real thing is released (Jan 15 according to Microsoft) so I think I'll give that leaked 'stable' one a miss

Fair enough. It update when Beta does and can't find any difference on the two. But yes, I keep going back to it, hope curiosity will not kill the cat (me).
