Should we consider and email service change?

My prior post stated some email issues that we are trying to figure out. At present our ISP is Ameritech.net and we are using mail.Yahoo.com, and we have been having some small problems with our emails both the wife and I. We have been using Windows Essential 2012 for our emails for some time and we are wondering if it is time to make a change. I have seen on the internet that there is a way to keep your old email and switch to a new email client like gmail.
Looking for suggestion? Change or is the latest WELM ok?

    Useful review for starters:

Note if considering transferring to a new email client, naturally you need an easy migration route to transfer contacts/email/mail rules etc as far as can be done. Some backup programs can help here.
