Not sure about the open tabs on andod, but the new Edge can do that as well

following on from recommendations I installed vivaldi onto my S8 but there is no icon? I cant access anything even though it is in my hone?

Click the V on the right side of the address bar, that's where the home menu starts. I'm using my Android phone now and haven't used any other browser since the beta launch and I'm pretty picky about my browsers.

I don't think I recommended it for phone use. I do happen to sometimes use Android:

Vivaldi Beta for Android | Vivaldi Browser

It's Beta so might be buggy.

Vivaldi on android is really good. Quite remarkable how they'll have soon three seperate channels (stable, beta & snapshot) which you can install side by side. Meanwhile you can only install one version of edge (stable or beta).

Vivaldi snapshot already has some nice tab animations which edge is yet to get. I wish the Vivaldi team doesn't rush its [stable] release like how edge did on mobile (& now on desktop).

I disable auto updates and install the stable release. I mostly use 32bit browsers on my 64bit machine and use a third party tool to update.

I have installed it but have no access at all to the browser. Its listed in Apps but there in nothing at all on screen. I have tried 2 installs to no avail. So I cant access anything like an address bar because I cant find Vivaldi. I am going to uninstall and try to find a n android stable ver as this is beta.

There is only Beta. Try installing via the APK instead of using Google Play Store.

For me Vivaldi android works okay but I prefer Yandex just because it's possible to install Chrome extensions and move cache to SD card.

I have just removed Vivaldi and installed brave as default, it still does not show icon, so it must be the phone??? Do you think I should hit reset??
