    chrome is not showing now

ok i moved my hard drive from a toshiba laptop over to a hp probook laptop and now i can't get the chrome browser to show. i deleted the chrome folder one file at a time as windows could not remove it. and then reinstalled it. same thing.

what is going on is when i click chrome to open the browser opens in a dark page, in the lower right corner i see stuff loading at the page is loading but the area is dark. i can put the mouse of the close and it closes but i can't see it.

i turned off defender and avast and it is still the same. if go over to the area of the menu i can get the drop down to show but if i click on anything i is dark.

edge works for getting online and all the other program are working as they should. only chrome is not working. i even tried reinstalling it and nothing. i went to google and downloaded this and got the run save prompt and went thru the steps so windows should know it is there.

i see the task manager see it and when i close the black area by guessing the x then chrome goes away from the task manager.

so does anyone have a fix for this? hp helpers tell me you ca't move a hard drive but i have done this a number of times without faults at all. this is the firs time and only chrome is faulting out. thanks

Simply uninstall chrome, download a fresh copy and reinstall chrome.

did that a few times and still nothing is working. i just did an update for the monitor to match the same as the other laptop as they are both the same and it still is black. also when i try to uninstall chrome it tells me to close the program but it is not open it opens when it is trying to install it, and i can't just delete the folder as a few files will not let me i have to open the folder and delete then 1 at a time.

explorer works edge works chrome fails firefox works.

ok i put the drive back into the old pc and chrome is working perfectly. so i do not understand why it will not work in the new pc. they both ate 64 bit machines and both have 8gb memory both have intel inside one is i3 new one is i4

this makes no sense. i did not delete the chrome before i put the drive back into the old pc. and it came up and has my bookmarks and such in it just like before. the few times i did get chrome to show in the new pc it was the same everything works then it would fail. and i would have to go in and deleted the program and reinstall it then it worked for 1 may 2 times and failed again. this pc i'm writing this question with is the same type of pc and chrome works on this pc great. plus i just installed firefox on that other pc that chrome failed on and firefox came up like a champ.

something is blocking chrome on the hp probook 6460b pc.

    Try updating your graphics drivers.

Still, you shouldn't just take a hard drive out of a pc with windows on it and just put it in a new machine. You should always do a clean install on any new pc you put windows on.

i put the same drive on the new pc as this one has i'm reply with these pcs are the same. they have the same guts in them the pc i took the hard drive out of was a toshiba machine but it had the i3 intel chip this pc has the i4 intel both have 8gb memory. and i installed the same graphics driver in that pc that is on this machine.

so now i'm reading up on migrating a hard drive from one machine to another machine. maybe windows will set the hard drive up to move and then when it gets to the new machine it will un migrate and then install whatever drivers it thinks it needs.

i did go to hp and hp said the drivers were correct but hp was just looking at the machine the hard drive may have had the toshiba drivers and did not like the hp machine good enough to display goggles chrome. thanks

ok update to this. turns out i had to do a restore for win 10. some had me do a image restore that di not work as it kept telling my usb drive to be a fat32 and not a ntfs drive. but then for some reason my screen drivers started to act up and so i took the drive out and just put it in the probook. then it told me i needed to do a fresh install so i did and saved my files and now it is running on the probook just fine. so thanks for the help. it seems to doing good now that it did a fresh install.

    thanks for the help.
