Not sure but try > Enhancer for YouTube, available from your Browsers Extension Store.

    Enhancer for YouTube™

If you are talking about the old and traditional Edge, AFAIK that's not possible, Microsoft never added the "Compact overlay" feature to that browser, but that browser will be replaced by the new Edge, and the new Edge does have that feature built-in, you just have to double right-click on the video and the "Picture in Picture" option will appear, although I prefer to use the extension, it's much more practical.

So, if you wish, you can try the new Edge.

Thanks JH. Looked in to that just now. But do not trust installing an extension + a special script to accomplish what I want.

Now looking in to Leo his suggestion. I have the most current Edge. One would think that i the new one. But double-right-click does not show the PIP option. I have the early bla bla edition of Win10 but looks like early Edge editions are not part of that.

No, the new Edge's builds are not part of the OS, you have to download them from the link I gave you, maybe in the version that will be released next year (20H1), the new Edge is already integrated into the OS.

The new Edge works just like Chrome, you have to download the builds and install them on Windows.

That extension (Enhancer for YouTube™) does not have the Picture in Picture function, the mini-player only remains on the screen while you are browsing YouTube, but if you switch to another tab, the mini-player does not remain on the screen, I have used that extension for a long time and I know very well how it works in the old Edge.
