    Google Chrome updates?

I am running Google Chrome on my Windows 10 laptop and Chrome is suppose to update itself in the background automatically.

For some reason, it only updates whenever I am in the About Google Chrome and then it updates. Is there a reason why this happens? Just as a note, I always close Chrome after my browsing is finished and then shutdown my laptop.

Same for me....I just manually check once a month or somebody will post about a Chrome update. Then go get.

Its strange, I always thought that Chrome will update itself automatically in the background.

The new Chrome Edge has updated itself a few times so maybe MS have fixed that.

It does update automatically eventually. Once a channel is released you can manually check to trigger it right away, but if you don't, and just continue to use Chrome, it may take a week for Google to roll it out to all users. If you find it hasn't automatically updated in over two weeks you may have something on your system preventing Chrome's services from triggering the self-check updater. If that's the case you may want to check threads on Google Chrome Help.

Chrome updates can be lazy. I usually spot there is an update on this forum and do it manually before Chrome updates!

Mine often broke and I had to refresh the page for it to finish updating.

The default mechanism that Google relies on to update "in the background" is through at least two tasks that get created when Chrome installed.

Check the Task Scheduler to see if they are missing, been disabled or are erroring out.

You can also force run the task to see what it does when it's triggered and also check what exactly attempting to run and checking to see if the path and files referenced in the task exist.
