    Username Problem

I'v kept my usernames for several site saved, so each time I log in, all I have to do is enter the password. As of yesterday, when I go to these websites, the usernames are all blank. I must have done something to cause this, but I don't know how to correct it. Can someone tell me how to get usernames to display again? My OS is Windows 10, with Firefox as my browser. Thanks.

    Hi, welcome to tenforums.
    Where did you save them?
    - in Firefox's password manager
    - in a cookie (you opted for that when accessing the site to save the login info)
    - in your own password manager (e.g. Lastpass, Roboform)?

To be honest, I'm not very computer literate, so I don't know where they ere saved. I Don,t use my own password manager, so it must be in cookies or Firefox.

Sometimes there's a prompt to save your login info (usually for insecure sites) when you first log in to one. Or it may simply be saved as a cookie.

Cookies are not stable pieces of data. They can be cleared by
    - an option in your browser
    - cleaning programs -e.g. Ccleaner
    - reinstalling a browser
    - clean installing an OS of course.
    - etc

Sometimes you're not even aware of the data being stored, so when it's suddenly gone...seems strange.

Browsers often have password managers, which means they only work with that browser. FF has one, and you may be prompted if you want to save your login data using it. Here it is: see if you've any data there.

Thanks for that. My websites are not in the FF password manager. The usernames will reappear as long as I stay logged in. Once I log out, I have to re-enter usernames.
    Thanks

You're correct- the info will be removed for insecure sites if you log out of course.

If you have a lot of logins and passwords to deal with, a password manager is a great tool.
    - 1 click on the password manager's entry for that site to launch the default browser, open the URL, fill the login fields and click the button.
    - no need to remember the login details- just one password to rule all for the password manager
    - data is encrypted
    - works across most popular browsers
    - some are cloud based, so work on multiple PCs, Android phones etc - all using the same database.

Makes logging in much faster, easier to have complex passwords, different for each login.
    Etc..
