Microsoft Edge: Paste URL into address bar

Been using browsers since 1994's Netscape and never thought I would be asking such a question

    But...

I am unable to paste a URL into the Microsoft Edge address bar. It appears the issue goes back > 4 years; and although I have searched extensively for a solution, no suggestions have resolved the issue. I can paste clipboard URL into Chrome or FF or Notepad or Word or [You name the app here], but not in the Edge address bar. AND, it is not limited to the address bar; I cannot paste anything into the search bar either. I can type in either bar, just not able to paste clipboard data.

I have tried all of the following, to no avail:

    1) Click in address or search bar or Ctrl + L, then Ctrl + V
    2) Click in address or search bar or Ctrl + L, right-mouse click and select "Paste"
    3) Settings | App | Microsoft Edge | Advanced options | Repair
    4) Settings | App | Microsoft Edge | Advanced options | Reset
    5) Open Edge Settings | Privacy & security | Show search and site suggestions as I type: Disable (i.e., turn off)

I have seen no other suggestions, as of yet.

Thank you in advance for your response.

Windows version: 64-bit Windows 10 1903 (clean install--new laptop; not an update from other version/build)
    Edge version: 44.18362.267.0
    Edge HTML version: 18.18362

Hi, never had this problem myself... hmm, I remember Netscape... and a world without an internet..

    Is this relevant?
Turn On or Off Copy and Paste in Application Guard for Microsoft Edge

    When you say
I cannot paste anything into the search bar
    - do you mean the one that may be on the taskbar, or Edge again?

Sorry, I should have specified that I am using 64-bit Windows 10 Home 1903. I believe application guard is available only to Pro and Enterprise. At least, I don't see it in Settings or Windows Features, and the registry hack from that post did not work.

RE: Search bar. The Edge home page is set to Bing (I assume--just says "Start page" in Settings w/o a URL) and it has a search bar/field at the top of its page. I cannot copy from or paste to or even cut/paste text I manually type in that field. Going to Google.com or DuckDuckGo.com or Yahoo.com or [Pick your search site], likewise, prevents copy/cut/paste to/from their search bars/fields.

This is a really frustrating issue because, while I am not alone, it is VERY inconsistent across users. You say you haven't experiences this issue. That is common across all of the forum posts (from many sites), without a common denominator. This browser is set to factory defaults. I have not modified it in any way from what was installed with the OS.

I do not use Edge at all. I mainly use Chrome. I occasionally need to test pages/code/solutions in other browsers, as either a baseline or double-check. Not being able to copy/paste in Edge renders it completely useless [to me], as URLs are rarely short or easy to type error-free. E.g., even the URL for your link: Turn On or Off Copy and Paste in Application Guard for Microsoft Edge is impossibly long to manually enter. Strange that Microsoft would even have a setting [by default, apparently] that would disable copying/pasting (or have it so hidden that NO ONE seems to be able to solve this issue).

I don't have the issue either.

Something is not right with your Edge. Have you tried creating another account? It could be your profile, see if work normally for another user. If so, and you want it to work in your current account, try reinstalling it. for the current user. If it doesn't work properly for any user, try reinstalling Edge for all users. See this tutorial:

Occurs for my admin and regular user accounts. As per your link, I performed re-install/re-register for all users. Problem persists.

UPDATE: OS just updated to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...date-kb4515384, which included some Edge security update and the problem persists.

Hi, could you confirm you did the clean install by
    a. booting from a Win 10 installation medium
    b. deleting all existing Windows partitions
    c. installing to unallocated space on the disk?

(just to make sure it really was a clean install...)

And if so, could you confirm you've not been syncing settings with another PC since that installation?

    Thanks.

I did not install the OS. This is a new laptop (~6 weeks old); the OS came pre-installed. I have not synched with any other devices. I have not tried to repair the Windows install, since nothing significant has been changed since I got the laptop. I.e., I have installed a few apps (VIM, WinMerge, Cygwin, etc.) but have made no firewall/Defender changes. The issue is isolated to Microsoft Edge. I know of nothing that I could have done that would have disabled copying/cutting/pasting into the address bar or HTML field w/in the page, especially since there are no other browsers or apps that exhibit the phenomenon. Extensive searches have indicated that this issue goes back >4 years; but the scant few solutions offered have not resolved the issue for me.

FYI: This is peculiar: I found this odd comment in an older thread on someone experiencing this:
    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...b-dbe9f39816d6
I have found that if you right click and copy, then use keyboard ctrl/v to paste it works. Like lets say I want to copy a tracking number from an email into ups track site. I can highlite / right click/ copy, but if I use a right click / paste nothing shows. but if i right click /copy / then ctrl /v (paste) it pastes correctly.
There's a suggestion at the end of that:

Thanks. I had previously gone through all 7 pages of responses on that thread and tried every relevant proposed solution, to no avail, the most popular of which are listed in the OP. My issue is a little different than the reply you referenced, in that I cannot even cut the text that I type into the field, let alone copy/paste. I.e., I go to the search field (or address bar), type whatever text/URL, select all, and then try to either Ctrl+X or right-mouse click and select "Cut". Not only does it not put the text into the clipboard, it doesn't even clear the field. Nothing. Nada. It's as if something in Edge has remapped the copy/cut/paste hot keys and menu options to Null. I mean, I am using the browser's own right-mouse context menu and it is not working.

I am still hopeful that someone can point me to a solution. It is nowhere near important enough for me to re-install. As previously stated, there is very little I could have done to cause this phenomenon. I am just SSSSSSSOOooooo thankful I quit using MS browsers as my primary in 1997 (United States vs Microsoft); otherwise, this would be extremely inconvenient. I will just have to use Safari, Opera, FF, or other for baseline comparisons instead.

Later today, I will try to re-enable IE 11 and see if it works or if it makes Edge work (I turned it off as a feature).
I doubt it, though. It seems that MS recommends Edge and only included IE 11 for backwards compatibility. My guess is that they are very separate apps and not bundled together at all.

If I figure it out, I will post here. I hope others do the same.

Do you see options like post #2 here?
Why does Edge not allow to grab a URL?

(And Edge does let me select the whole URL easily...)
