eMail Program Suggestion ?

Hello,

We have a family computer, an iMac, which we use
to get all of our eMails on.

I also have a dedicated W10 pc, which I use for my specific work.

Occasionally, but rarely, I have need to receive or send an eMail on this W10 pc.

Might someone suggest a very simple, basic, eMail program to use on the W10 pc ?

Would like it to be disabled easily, so it doesn't fill up.
Would open it up when I have need to actually send, or receive, an eMail.
Still want 99% of the eMails received to go to the iMac.

And,

How do I make certain that any eMails are not erased on either computer, if opened
up on one or the other ?

If you use Thunderbird (free client with unlimited number of accounts) and select IMAP then the mail stays on the server by default so other computers (whether windows, Linux, macs, tablets,phones etc) etc can access the email - it stays on the server (by default) until it's deleted.

You need to ensure also that all your other email clients (on imacs or whatever) also use IMAP protocol or it won't work. I would assume that since your emails aren't deleted by other computers automatically by just reading them you probably are already using IMAP --if it's POP3 you'll have to re-do the accounts again. Save emails in some archive folder before changing from POP3 to IMAP.

Just a bit of clarification, please.
Not too sharp with this "stuff". Just would like to learn.

If I have POP, the eMails that I downloaded are safe and stay on
my pc until I manually delete them. This is true for the IMAP also. Correct ?

But once deleted, I have no chance to get them back from
the Comcast or anyone else's Server is configuration was initially for POP. They are truly gone.

If IMAP, I can download them, again, from Server (somehow).

Correct ?
