How do i sync emails/folders/contacts across multiple PCs?

    Hi all,

A friend of mine needs to sync emails/folders/contacts across two Windows 10 PCs, like a cloud-based solution, such as Gmail. However, the mail app he uses needs to be recognized as the default mail app in Windows 10.

My first thought is the Windows 10 Mail app, as i didn't think you'd be able to set a cloud-based email client as the default mail app.

The second part of this problem is getting his current emails/folders/contacts from Windows Live Mail (his current email app) to the new email app. His account was set up in WLM as POP3, so all his messages are stored locally on his PC.

He does not want to pay for Outlook, but i thought we could use a 3-day trial of Office to get emails into a .PST, if need be.

    Any suggestions?

Hi Babber23. Welcome to the TenForums @Babber23

Yes I would run Thunderbird. Not sure what you mean like gmail. What email domain are they using today.

Instruction to convert Live to Thunderbird. I used, they are correct.

Switching to Thunderbird | Thunderbird Help

All devices need to use IMAP as protocol.

Before doing could you answer what domain they are using for email today.

    Thanks for the response Ken.

My friend has a Telus email address and uses Shaw for an internet connection.

That being said, I did end up solving my problem by switching him to Gmail. I created a Gmail address (Google Account) for him. I added that account to WLM, then copied his folders/emails from within WLM. I then set up Gmail to import emails from his Telus account and have the replies and new emails to appear to come from his Telus account.

Contacts came over easily enough by exporting to .csv then importing to Contacts.

Everything is working as I hoped it would. He can access his emails from both PCs and I'll never have to worry about backing up or restoring his emails :)
