When a release is finalised it is immediately available in /pub/firefox/releases/ which is where that link pointed. It takes a day or so before the release notes are finalised, only then will it be pushed to you and shown as an available update in Firefox. You installed 81.0 manually, I tend to wait for Firefox to install it itself.

Aha! Thanks for the info; I kinda knew I might be jumping the gun . . . I think I'll wait for the next release; much easier.

I keep up with the Firefox release calendar and always expect to be able to download a new release build on Monday before it starts getting distributed generally on Tuesday. Firefox 82 is set for October 19 & 20.

I also like to click Help, About Firefox to see if there is a finalized/RTM version available and let Firefox do its thing.

You did not "jump the gun". It is fine to manually update, or wait for Help>About to do it. Either is fine. There is no right or wrong. There is no reason to think you did anything wrong or hastily. Choice is good. Choice does not dictate one solution over the other.
