Please bring back Manual email setups - Thunderbird , Outlook etc !!!!

    Hi there

The rediculous idea of "automating" email account set ups is Bonkers -- in Thunderbird the only way to get back to any sort of manual setup (remember you could have separate inbound and outbound mail servers with different user id's (logon id's) and passwords) is to "poodlefake" the setup with a bonkers non email address such as dog@dog.com and then you will gert access to the manual screens.

Outlook 2016/2019 also makes manual setup rediculously hard to do unless you know about the run outlook.exe command with the profiles parameter.

Why not on the setup screens simply have Manual setup as an option.

Anyway for those using Thunderbird with non standard email accounts e.g not those common ones such as gmail.com or whatever can still get back to proper manual screens as follows.

    1) On account creation select use existing email address
    2) enter a B/S one e.g dog@dog.com and leave password blank
    3) then hit next
    4) EUREKA -- Manual setup screens !!!!!!!

I'd much rather just enter the email address and password then let the mail client configure everything than have to enter all the mail settings for each of my accounts.

Bring on more automation, I say!!!!

    Hi there

Automation is great for a lot of cases but : that's fine if it works -- but if your domain etc isn't in the setup's mail server list then you are hosed if there's no way of doing it manually.

(OT I like the idea of driverless cars, trains etc so I'm not anti-automation per se but still would like to have manual possibilities when the automatic things fail).

I think it's done from an srv dns record rather than a list of server configs.
