Firefox Won't Start After Reinstall ... Oops!

We have a person who comes in and uses the Sr. Center computers (which is what they're for), but he got a couple of those PUPs that changed the search engine, and Gramma's Lye Soap wouldn't take it off.

I followed instructions online to remove the PUPs, and something went awry. I think some of the files I removed had replaced some other files, and now they're gone.

So, now when I try to reinstall FF (at least four times), it tells me "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible."

I'm at a loss as to what to do next . . . We use Firefox in the classroom. Help, please?

Can you restore an Image backup from before the user did that?

Using Revo or another unistaller remove firefox as well as registry entries.
Run the usual sfc dism scans
After cold boot try installing FFox again.

    Try TC's idea first

Ummm, I don't think I have access to backups of these computers; that is, if they have one. I don't want to call IT Jim out, since he trusts me (bad choice, Jim!) to take care of them.

I may be able to do a restore. I'll check in a few.

I'll try Revo, but I think I already did that last week. I'll check to be sure; that may be the way to go.

Just a note, Wynona. If you cannot restore an image:

Revo-ing Firefox will have no effect on whatever PUPS/PUMS got on there. The scans are still in order. Would also suggest running ADWCleaner, it is designed to go after PUPS, like toolbars and all that stuff.

I physically went in and removed the PUPs, TC. I think I shouldn't orta done that. That's why I think the correct files were removed from the folders.

Wynona, did the message "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible", come up after the installation, but before trying to run Firefox ?

Only if so, you can start the Firefox Profile Manager, and create a new Profile and make it the default startup profile.

So, first make sure to terminate any Firefox instances in task manager, and then from a command prompt, try:

    C:\Path...to...\firefox.exe -P

Also, have a read here, in case there is anything relevant to your particular case:

You've lerned the hard way Wyn, always keep a backup of your FF profile. Moz backup still works very well.
I've been there before and just built a new profile but it does take some time.
