Weird issue with firefox - "stuck" boxes of text

I'm not sure where this should go but I'm guessing it's a browser issue.

Since last week, I've had an issue with Firefox where randomly a text box from a portion of a tab will get stuck somewhere on the screen, and that text box will then be visible on all other tabs. Even if I minimize Firefox, the text box will still hover over the desktop. Even playing Youtube videos full-screen, that text box will hover over it. Then it will randomly just disappear at some point if I go back to the original tab, but it takes a while.

Here's an example - see the box of text there? It appears in every tab, stuck in exactly the same place in each tab. Even tabs from different websites.

What could possibly be causing this? It's driving me nuts. I'm on Firefox 68 64bit. I updated my add-ons, and I even installed the latest nvidia video driver just in case.

    Nothing there was really helping.

So I decided to start from scratch. I uninstalled firefox completely, deleting my profile. I then reinstalled it, adding my extensions back manually. So it's a brand new installation of Firefox.

And it still happens. It's the tooltip that pop up when you hover over links. They get stuck across multiple tabs. Cycling through all the tabs usually clears it away, until the next tooltip gets stuck a few seconds later.

I manually disabled all ad-ons, and it still happens. I then started Firefox in safe mode, and it doesn't seem to happen in safe mode.

So what is happening here? Is there a way to disable those hovering tooltips that pop up over links?

But I shouldn't need to do that because this was never a problem up until a week or two ago.

    What can I do?

What can you do? Panic,, turn off your computer, run in circles, scream and shout,, and so forth....

That diagnostics and your subsequent efforts were of no avail says to me that you have two options, as the problem seems to me to be caused by something rather odd and perhaps even unknown.

First, see if you can, in fact, disable those tooltips. Fairly easy to do. This Mozilla support post is rather old, but the steps are still accurate, I just tried it. Go ahead and disable them, restart FF, and verify they are not functional. Then toggle it back on, restart FF, and check what you get. Sometimes, with a lot of software, toggling off/on/off/on, sets it correctly. Clears the cobwebs, so to speak. No guarantee, but give it a try.

And a pic of the entry they are talking about.

I changed that about:config setting to false, and restarted Firefox, but I still get the tooltips when hovering on or near links. It disabled tooltips for hovering over Firefox's buttons, like the back/forward buttons, but it has no effect on tooltips from links on web pages.

Really stuck here guys. It doesn't happen in safe mode, but it does happen in private mode, even with all extensions manually disabled.

I asked over in Mozillazine but since I'm new they haven't even approved my question yet. For all I know it might not even get posted there. It's been a couple hours already awaiting approval.

Learn to be patient: Your message is posted on mozillaZine, and as of 0610MDT this date had been seen thirty-two times. mozillaZine is not a chat room, a not-uncommon misunderstanding by new members; thus, it often takes hours and even days for someone who can help to see and respond to the query.

Keep us posted if you find a solution - I've experienced this exact same issue over the last couple of weeks.
