Dear fellow members having serious trouble with Bing. Need your help .

Apologies to Jerry's Cousin Muscles' letter, re; Tom.

I prefer Google's standard original type of Browser Google Chrome for my son as it is visually more simple and so much less information to contend with.

Due to his handicap he will uninstall needed programs when confused then brings his Laptop to me at best in a mess sometimes broken and expects an instant solution. I have yet to sort out the "Simple" Same Problems from last Xmas on a previous laptop shelved for now.

1, I will have to try and prevent him accessing settings eventually. When I eventualy reinstall Word 2007 again that he removes. and then asks for it.
2, If possible to find a way to install google Chrome without it being part of the Bing process. I have Chrome on my PC and W10 in perfect sync. When I click on the google short cut icon I get google not Bing.,
I have done the same as advised in an earlier thread relating to Bing and Chrome. Always I end up with the Google icon when it is clicked on, the Bing browser appears and a message bing is better etc (It may be, but Google is simpler) .
This also when I get Google LLC's own webpage after uninstalling Google and re google google to try and install an and having set google chrome as default. The Google App is not on the default list.
You will always get google via Bing but MS do a hard sell to try and get you to use Bing. it seems to be unavoidable, thank goodness I don't have this trouble on my PC .

Open Chrome and click on the three dots at the top far right of your screen (Customize and control Google Chrome).

Click on Settings near the bottom of the window that pops up. Scroll down until you get to Search Engine and click the drop down arrow. Besides the default of Google, your choices are Bing, Yahoo and DuckDuckGo. Click on your choice and your searches should always use that search engine.

Personally, I would choose DuckDuckGo because it does not track your movements on the web. And with a handicapped son, you want to keep him as safe as possible.

At DuckDuckGo, DuckDuckGo — Privacy, simplified. you're never tracked, nor is your information sold.

Another one you can add to your search engines is "Startpage".....I use both Startpage & DDG on all my machines!

I assume he is running as a a standard user, not admin? Secondly, I would advise installing disk imaging software (I use Macrium Reflect), take an image when its all OK and keep it safe (on an external drive). You should be able to recover the OS and installed programs in minutes.
