    Outlook 2016

    I was given a copy of Outlook 2016 since I could not get my old Outlook 2003 to work on Windows 10. The way it works is really confusing at the moment.

    Does anyone know of good tutorials to help in learning process?

    One thing I would like to know right NOW is how to get pictures to download automatically with any emails that I receive.

    BTW I don't receive very many emails (maybe 6-7 a day.

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi there
    @huffman

    When you get embedded email with pictures just click where I've shown in the screenshot -- it's in the same place in English.

    That should download / convert to inline pictures and you can change the options.

    then pictures will appear, e.g from a UK railway site (this company actually does run a few trains !!!!!! but I think UK Govt actually owns it so that's got to be a miracle in itself that something works).

    Here are the instructions from the Office site - Block or unblock automatic picture downloads in email messages - Outlook

    Unblock picture downloads for all messages
    1. On the File tab, choose Options > Trust Center.
    2. Under Microsoft Outlook Trust Center, click Trust Center Settings.
    3. Clear the Don't download pictures automatically in HTML e-mail messages or RSS items check box.

    If you get spam to your inbox with pictures/active content on there's a good chance you'll confirm your address is live and then get even more spam as your address gets propagated around the various databases. In general it's not a good idea and why the default is off.

    You might be able to permit / whitelist on an individual message basis leaving the default as off, that's the way I have all my various email addresses and clients (webmail and W10 Mail as desktop client, Gmail and Outlook apps. on Android mobile) set up, but I'm not using Outlook 2016 so don't know the variables there.

    You could front end your email with webmail set to off, do your house cleaning (view inbox, delete spam et al), then let Outlook 2016 download email to your desktop with pictures on, which would be less risky (manually trigger Outlook to download rather than leaving it on auto).
    You can set up webmail to give you desktop notification alerts (the little box bottom right corner of your W10 screen) via the browsers, or let the mobile apps alert you, so no need to keep manually checking your email in Outlook.
