Green EV indicator on address bar missing in edge and IE11 on two PC's

    All,

I have an interesting observation, I have searched this high and low and can find threads with the "same issue" with wide ranging dates.

The issue on two out of three PC's in our home fleet In IE11 and Edge "green" indicator id not present for the same web site with and extended validation cert. Our newest machine does show "correctly".

All PC's are running Win 10 1903 done this weekend (that is when I got re-curious in post update testing). The issue has been so on the desktop and the "old" spare lap-top for a long time. I just got ambitious and started searching "why" when I could not find a resolution but many with the "same issue", I wanted to ask the forum users here if they ever ran across this, and if there is a known reason.

Here are screen shots for clarity
The new laptop Green EV indicator on address bar missing in edge and IE11 on two PC's-image.png Green EV indicator on address bar missing in edge and IE11 on two PC's-image.png as advertised by MS

The desktop Green EV indicator on address bar missing in edge and IE11 on two PC's-image.pngGreen EV indicator on address bar missing in edge and IE11 on two PC's-image.png

The old lap-top is same as desk top.

Desktop Win 10 Pro -- New lap-top is Win 10 home and old lap-top is Home version as well.

I am "OK" with them being this way as I mostly use Firefox and it works fine. I built the desktop in 2017 and as far as I can remember it has always been that way. Just want to know if there is a "fix" that is known..

    Thanks

Your install does not determine those cert’s. Those cert’s can be valid for a decade or longer. As for the so called “Green” wording. Does not mean anything, other to highlight where to click to see the https cert. Most likely the laptop has some form of Internet security with browser extension installed.

    Oh, but it does:

    • While a gray lock means that the website is encrypted and verified, a green lock means that Microsoft Edge considers the website more likely to be authentic. That's because it's using an Extended Validation (EV) certificate, which requires a more rigorous identity verification process.

How to know whether to trust a website in Microsoft Edge

Thank you both bro67 and NMI for your replies:

bro67 - I understand the green indicator to the best of my knowledge simply does indicate an EV certificate in use. That is why it does not weigh "too" heavy of an issue at all.

Some additional info - All PC's are running same security, in this case ESET internet security - they do not use any browser extensions. I have had ESET for one year - both PC's in question did have Kaspersky internet security installed prior to ESET, Kaspersky did use a browser extension in IE11 but not Edge.

Best of my ability the previous AV was uninstalled correctly and fully.

The desktops registry has never been "cleaned" or any cleaning tools used on it.

SFC is clean on all machines (part of my post-update routine).

All browsers would use the same cert store (best I understand) so the certs themselves are not of concern. Remember Firefox does what it is supposed to on the PC's in question.

It seems there is trigger that does not display to green indicator in Edge and IE11, I would have thought this may have been corrected when going through the major updates of windows 10.
