Windows Live Mail help, please.

I have a friend who migrated from Outlook Express to Windows Live Mail some time ago and has since resisted advice to move to a new Program.
(His OS is Windows 10 Home 64-bit, currently up to date).
Until recently, all was well, but now many of his older emails either won't open at all, or open as a random Amazon email.
The newer emails, under his 'normal' Tree of Folders are fine, the affected ones seem to be only those listed beneath the 'Storage Folders' section.

I seem to remember reading about a command line prompt to attempt a fix to the mail database, but can't now find it.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate any advice at all - even if it's 'you're flogging a dead horse'.

Thank you for taking the time to reply - I suspect it's not a recent problem, he only noticed it when he delved into an ancient email last weekend.

Needless to say, he's never been into Back-Ups or System Imaging, so I'm struggling to pinpoint a likely suitable restore point.

The only conclusion I can reach is that it's the mail database that's corrupted. I 'repaired' the Program and also exported the database into another email client but the same problem arose.

Maybe it's time to bury the hoss and start over...

Well, I appreciate your input and for sure, he'll be backing up his system regularly now.

Meanwhile, I did find a supposed 'fix' script on a very old Microsoft site, which someone claimed succeeded - I'm going to try it on a copy of his database and keep my fingers crossed.

Failing that, I'm confident that I can salvage his more recent emails and get them into a new email client.

Thanks for the suggestion, I was currently favouring emClient, but I'll read up on Thunderbird.
