best Replacement for Windows Live Mail

What is the most similar, free email client app, to replace Windows Live Mail?

Thunderbird is useable, but quite complicated compared to WLM which has the menu bar along the top.

Mail in Windows 10 doesn't allow emails to be dragged/dropped to desktop, and a few other limitations.

eC Mail seems to be the closest I can find.

    All suggestions welcome.

    My preferences:

    1. eM Client - powerful, not too complicated

    2. Mailbird - fast and simple

    3. Thunderbird - all powerful, a little complex.

Windows Live Mail works with Windows 10 even though it is no longer supported by Microsoft.
    I’m using it.
So far I haven’t found a decent replacement, the mail app is very basic.
EM Client is similar but it’s not free if you wish to have more than 2 accounts.

Thanks Edwin. I was using Win Live Mail, but the last updates for Win 10 stopped it working. And when I tried to re-install it, it wouldn’t install ... despite trouble shooter running it in Win 7 & 8 modes. In the end I gave up. 😌

    a. Right click on start button
    b. Click Powershell w/ admin.
    c. Run the following commands to uninstall Windows Live Essentials:
    · (64 bit) "c:\program files (x86)\windows live\installer\wlarp.exe" /cleanup:all /q
    · (32 bit) "c:\program files\windows live\installer\wlarp.exe" /cleanup:all /q
    d. A dialog box shows status until uninstallation has completed
will remove all Wlive programs completely allowing for reinstall.

As stated I'm running Live Mail & the latest Windows 10 with not problems.

    Thanks everyone.

Bastet: I used your code in Powershell, using 64bit, as my OS is 64bit, and the dialogue box showed. But it didn't work, So tried code for 32bit, with same result.

I'm using Windows Live 2012 installer. Is there a later version?

retexan599: At moment am using eM Client, and that seems to work OK. Ran Yahoo account fine. And while POP worked on 2nd account, SMTP didn't. Ran repair, and after a long wait, it finally got it working using a legacy SMTP.

They're my two main accounts, and they both also work fine on iPhone. So basically all good.

    eM Client allows:

    • Atachments & emails to be drag/dropped onto desktop from Inbox.
    • Emails to be forwarded from within the email saved to desktop/folder. Or amended and 'save as'.
    • Bulk pics to be inserted into the context of the email.
    • Pics in context of emails can be saved by right clicking pic and 'save as'
    • Most type commands work OK. But while Ctrl A highlights all email. Ctrl D doesn't delete them. Have to use delete button.

    Overall quite good.

No the 2012 is the latest version.
If the code didn’t work then try it using cmd prompt to see if that makes any difference or try Revo uninstaller free: Revo Uninstaller Free - RevoUninstaller

I had been using Windows Live shortcut that loads Win Live Mail only. So downloaded Windows Live Essentials & chose to install Mail only. It installed OK but wouldn’t open. Error message said a Windows .dll file was missing. And it said to try reinstalling. Tried to reinstall but it showed them as all installed.

Ran “sfc /scan now”. Then used Revo to uninstall & tried to re-install. But when the choices came up for which app to install, once again it showed them as all installed.

Might just roll back to previous version of Windows 10; or install ghost copy of OS created 3 months ago.

    Thanks for trying.
