a problem with firefox been the default browser

This is on my Dell laptop OS Win 10 Home 64bit. Every time I start Firefox, Firefox asks if "I want Firefox to be the default browser", see the 1st screen capture attachment bellow.
I click yes and the default app window opens up. See the 2nd screen capture attachment bellow.
Firefox isn't in the list of app's to be selected as the default browser. What do I do?

    Steve

The attachments are in the wrong order, #2 screen capture is the top picture.

If you click on the box surrounding Microsoft Edge are you not given options?

Thanks for the tip Ken. I finely solved the problem. Again the Geeks at MicroSoft have to "fix something that an't broken". In Win 7 the default app dir was in plain site when you left click the Windows icon in the lower left corner. In Win 10 Go to Settings > Apps. Click Default apps in the pane on the left. You'll see your default apps. Here is were I was lost. I clicked on the MicroSoft Edge then a list of available browsers came up for me to click on. I didn't know that I had to click on MicroSoft Edge it self to get the list of available browsers.

When I clock on the Microsoft Edge box only Chrome, IE and Edge are available. Firefox and Waterfox, which are both installed, are not available there. Anybody know how to make them appear?

Rather than clicking Edge go to the bottom of that panel and select "Select defaults by apps". Do they show in list of apps installed?

Started to google.... seems like a common issue.

Could you select Firefox before you install Waterfox?

What version of Windows 10 are you on.

I did find this in the forum.

No I don't remember seeing it before installing Waterfox. Also, I tried uninstalling both Firefox and Waterfox and then installed Firefox, still not present on the Default Browser list.

Windows 10 1809 with the latest updates but the same problem was there in 1803. I didn't notice it before then.

I tried the suggestions in the link you provided and nothing worked except the last one with the command prompt command. That worked on the laptop that was most affected and made Firefox appear on the list and is now my default browser. :)

I also have a desktop which has had Firefox as the default browser forever but it doesn't show up on the Default Browser list and none of the suggestions worked to make it appear. I'm not going to mess with that one too much as Firefox is already the default browser so I'll be fine unless it somehow gets changed.

    Thanks for your help. :)

    Great.

Okay so you are all up to date so it is not that.

Not sure how long you've had your install, meaning when is the last time you clean installed. Every so often the only way to get rid of these glitchy bugs is to start over. Lots of work but usually corrects the uncorrectable. What a pain though.

Caledon Ken and JSheridan. I am not one to complain or impede knowledge and help. But the rules say that this is hijacking a post. I got a warning for doing it my self. It was on the same subject. I chimed in saying that I had the same problem. I have to do a wipe and reinstall also when Windows gets bogged down.
