I am not as aware of the Dev channel as I am of the Canary channel, so I don't know, my point is that if they release a new version on the Dev channel on a Saturday, it has nothing to do with the release of the stable version.
PS, Also don't be surprised if in the future Microsoft starts releasing updates on the weekends, I mean, Chrome Dev has received updates on the weekends several times and Chrome Canary receives updates every day (it is very strange the day that version don't receive updates), Chrome Canary even received updates on 24, 25, 31 and 1, it could be that Microsoft starts doing the same.
The Beta version was also updated today to 79.0.309.58

I got your point.
I was simply making a point that the Development Edge does not normally if ever update on a weekend. I merely made my post with the inference that perhaps this unusual update release might be to fix things, like favorite syncing, that they would like to find a solution to before the final Edge release on January 15.
The current "look" of the InPrivate indicator may be a bug after all and not the beginning of a change in the design of the indicator (the "bug" can be fixed by modifying some files), but who knows, Edge developers might surprise us and make that indicator rectangular again (as it should be IMHO). These are the changes that the indicator has gone through (so far):
For those who still don't know, this is the current design of the incognito indicator in Chrome by default (there are some flags that can modify the appearance of this indicator in Chrome):
So it's not unreasonable to think that the final design of the indicator in Edge could resemble the mockup that I show in the GIF.

Version 81.0.385.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit)
...again, no obvious changes...still no History, Open tabs, or Extensions sync
Dev channel update to 81.0.381.0 is live
(And now available after a slight delay.)
